Instant Opinion Polls in the Classroom

Instant Opinion Polls in the Classroom | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

For a long time now I have been looking for a tool that enables instant polling in the classroom or in the lecture room. I specifically wanted something that; doesn't require registration (especially from the people I'm polling), updates very quickly, works on any platform from computers to mobile devices

It looks like I have finally found what I've been looking for and best of all it's free. The tool that I have found is Mentimeter and it does all of the above.

An infographic I created for a MOOC at Stanford: Designing New Learning Environments. Made with too little space, too little skills, too little time and too little research. Lots of fun though.

Interesting take on a few forms of curation that can be used.  Infographic is, as the creator remarked, a little crowded, however the information is useful.

http://sociedad.elpais.com/sociedad/2011/05/12/actualidad/1305151203_850215.html

The Top 100 Tools for Learning 2012 list is revealed

The Top 100 Tools for Learning 2012 list is revealed | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

By Jane Hart - Learning in the social workplace

This year’s Top 100 Tools for Learning list (the 6th Annual Survey) has been compiled from the votes of 582 learning professionals worldwide – 55% working in education, 45% working in non-educational organizations. The top tool for the 4th year running is Twitter, with both YouTube (2nd) and Google Docs (aka Google Drive) (3rd) retaining their places for the 3rd year in succession.

Once again the list is dominated by free online social tools. However, what struck me when compiling the list this year (and reading many of the notes added to the individual contributors’ lists) was the huge difference between the tools that are now being used in education compared with those in workplace learning.

"Label 59 is a web application that lets you label anything interactively. It is ideal for creating engaging presentations that have interactive labels attached to them. These labels are hotspots on the photo and are represented by markers. You then define content for each of these markers by adding connectors, arrows, tooltips, text blocks and details window.

What you get as a result, is an impressive presentation (in Flash or HTML5) that highlights the key points on your photo when markers are clicked or when the mouse pointer hovers over them.

Is What is the Future of the University? the wrong question? - a video by University Alliance

Is What is the Future of the University? the wrong question? - a video by University Alliance | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Over-concern for one's own future is often an invitation to those who present themselves as the 'strong man/women' ready to save the country/institution/etc. As Hayek and others warned us a long time ago, these people are dangerous. Thinking of others needs to come before self-interest. Universities are currently rather over-concerned about their future, preferring to worry about that than the terrible burden that is to be carried by their students.

The Dialogic Potential of ePortfolios: Formative Feedback and Communities of Learning Within a Personal Learning Environment

Paper by Ester Ehiyazaryan-White

Abstract:

This paper reports on the findings of a study into the use of ePortfolios as personal learning
environments (PLE) by a group of students pursuing Master’s degrees in Education. The qualitative study explores the potential of the ePortfolio to support learners in engaging in formative peer andtutor feedback as well as in developing a learning community. Within this study, the ePortfolio is presented as an alternative to the discussion forums based in the institutional virtual learning environment (VLE), as it combines the individual, reflective benefits of the PLE with the communal, social benefits offered via the discussion forums. Data were collected of the interactional content that students created through the ePortfolio (blog posts and responses to others’ posts) as well as through a focus group interview with the participating students that explored the learners’ perceptions of the ePortfolio as a support mechanism for their study on a specific module. The findings of the study indicate that while in many ways learners’ online interactions through the ePortfolio were similar to those described in VLE discussion forums, there were several key advantages to positioning this dialogue within a PLE, including encouraging deep rather than surface approaches to learning and providing the opportunity to construct a personal and re-traceable narrative of the individual’s learning journey.

37 Blended Learning Resources You Can Use Tomorrow: blended learning, elearning, digital tools, khan academy, youtube...

Like any course development process, there is a good deal of research that goes into remixing the contents of a new or existing class curriculum. Beyond your own knowledge and expertise, providing high-quality resources for your students is the key to a successful class. This is just as true for a course which relies heavily or exclusively on free online resources. There is no need to dive right into the deep end though.

Content Curation for Professional Development

Content Curation for Professional Development | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

"Over half a century ago, management guru Peter Drucker presented the concept of the knowledge worker. Compared to the manual laborer, ===> the knowledge worker focused on quality over quantity and worked more independently as problem solvers." <===

Over the many applications of Social Content Curation, Professional Development has been a strong trend. We keep observing it on Scoop.it but it's also been reported by Social Media influencers.

As more and more of us become Knowledge Worker, it should be no suprise that Content takes a growing importance on our Professional lives. So here's our take on it and why we announced this new integration with LinkedIn earlier today.
