Whether public or private, universities cannot be exempt from regulation, says Miguel Angel Escotet, but it should come in the form of self-assessment and a duty to society, not politics
Alfredo Corell's insight:
the author states: "Autonomy will always be subordinate to the necessary response of universities to the needs, demands, characteristics and transformations of the social system of which they are a part. "
Are the goverments part of that social system? (one would answer "yes"). Then... for example, in Spain, the actual goverment is preparing a new Law for University regulation, with a tremendous loss of institutions actual autonomy. ... but are politicians really the best regulators of Universities? I'm afraid this is not the good road map... Delete the scoop?
