A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations. Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools: 1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it. 2. "Free Screen to video is a freeware designed to record your computer screen activity in video. You can record the whole screen or only some areas of the screen. The video formats in FLV and SWF do not require any additional CODECS installation. Everything is included in the software.

I'm unfamiliar with the site this comes from (techshout) but it's a useful introduction to a current range of offerings in the category of screen recording, screencasts, etc. Looks like some potential new tools to explore.
