A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations. Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools: 1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it. 2. a new skill in digital education: content curation
Right, this is a topic I've been thinking and working with a lot lately. The authors discuss this as a tool for secondary school (mostly), but the principles apply equally to adult learners and collaboration, learning communities and communities of practice.
The reference list is also a valuable resource. More to add to my reading list...
Robin Good's insight:
Paul Mihailidis, has an interesting essay on "Exploring Curation as a Core Competency in Digital an Media Literacy Education" in which he offers "a prospective attempt to build curation into the media literacy conversation..." by analyzing the analyzing effective curation practices, and six highly relevant teaching points for using a news curation tool like Storify in the classroom.
His essay "seeks to encourage instructors, particularly on secondary and tertiary education levels, to bridge the gap between informal learning outside of the classroom with formal learning to create a more dynamic place for students to advance critical inquiry, dialogue, and engagement through new forms of content creation, curation, and dissemination."
He writes: "Through student-driven, creation-driven, collective and integrated teaching approaches to curation, the framework aims to build towards savvy media consumption and production, critical evaluation and analysis, and participation in local, national and global dialog.
The framework also addresses the ability to see diversity and civic voice as core competencies in the curation process.
As students learn to build cohesive stories and ideas from a wide variety of sources, they can learn about the diverse types of content that inform a story, and the avenues they have-through social media tools and platforms-to be part of the discussion."
Curation can be an extremely effective approach to develop critical thinking skills and practices, as it forces students to evaluate, vet, verify and decide what really matters.
"When students develop a credible list of professional and personal sources around an issue and/or event, they must acknowledge how much subjective weight they place on a tweet, a blog, or a Facebook post and in relative comparison to an advocacy group, cable television operation, or news service. Arguing for the credibility of a myriad of voices online forces students to build valuable justifications for what they choose to believe, and why."

I am very excited to find this work to share with my teachers. I continue to get pushback as I try to encourage them to allow time for students to curate. The fact of the matter is that true curation takes time, but the skills gained by students cannot be ignored, and research and critical analysis are found throughout the Common Core Standards. Curation is also a pathway to personalized learning as students pursue their own areas of interest through the art of curation.

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).
The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency...
With all this information... if you don't prepare an infographic...
As a Teacher it becomes more and more important to visualise complex processes...I think it's great tools like these give teachers a chance to be more visual in there naratives.

When it comes to using web resources with our students, time plays a decisive role.It is next to impossible for a busy teacher restricted by curriculum constraints, day to day lesson preparations, assignment corrections, to mention but a few of his chores, to effectively search the web and find the adequate resources to share with his/ her students. Most people just do not have the time to learn all these technologies and some educators pick just one or two websites of interest and start exploring them.

The Movenote app lets you record video alongside documents or pictures to create an integrated video presentation with slides.
Creating presentations is easy and fast. Simply record video with your device and swipe to synchronize the slides to the video. Presentations are shared by sending a link to the recipient and can be viewed without the app.
Movenote have APPs for iPhone, iPad or Android. There is also a desktop version.
STEPS:
-open your documents or slides in Dropbox or Google Drive with the App
-record your video comment
I think it can be highly effective in flipped classrooms.
This is a great tool. I've downloaded it to my Samsung tablet can't wait to put it to good use!

Education 3.0 is a term that has been used to describe a level of transformative capabilities and practices for education in the 21st century.
Professor Derek Keats, of the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa,[1] and his co-author Jan Philipp Schmidt, FreeCourseWare Manager at University of the Western Cape, South Africa, used the term in 2007 to apply to the use and impact on education of collaborative and personalized learning, reusable learning content, and recognition of prior learning (RPL) whether by formal or informal means.
Keats' explorations were focused on higher education.[2] Dr. John Moravec at the University of Minnesota broadens this view, and describes Education 3.0 as a product necessary to support what he labels "Society 3.0" - a near future paradigm of social co-constructivism, ambient technology, and propelled by continuous innovation at all levels of society.[3]
