The Power of a Networked Teacher Illustrated

The Power of a Networked Teacher Illustrated | Innovacion Pedagogica | Scoop.it
A wonderful visual depiction of how educators can tap into their networks to expand and continually improve their teaching practice from a trove of rich resources. Illustrated by Langwitches, the image refers to Alec Couros’s original post exploring question, “What does the network mean to you?”

Great visual of how networks are created to support how best to utilize them in education.

Depicts exactly what I am exploring at the moment as part of my #H812 studies and MA in Online and Disctance Education.  Chosen however not to 'network' Facebook as I tend to use it socially rather than professionally.

The Padagogy Wheel ... it's a Bloomin' Better Way to Teach

The Padagogy Wheel ... it's a Bloomin' Better Way to Teach | Innovacion Pedagogica | Scoop.it

" Dr Ian Green from the School of Education here at Adelaide and I [Allan Carrington] have used Padagogy 101 (introduction to iPad in HE) and Padagogy 201 (more advanced use for L&T) to train over 600 faculty from universities in Australia. During my research I saw lots of great work done by others using Bloom’s Taxonomy including the Revised Taxonomy which has now become the Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy. However when I discovered the excellent pioneer work done by Kathy Schrock with “Bloomin’ Apps” I got the idea for the Padagogy Wheel. Dare I say it but it is the next version for mobile learning of the ongoing importance of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Bloom’s is still fundamental to good teaching and learning."

A good starting point for I-pad apps and usage for educational purposes. Great to have the links. As always the first step in a journey that has many twists and turns. It takes you where you want to go but there are many pathways you can take and who knows where they will lead you!Sometimes it's the journey that is important not just the destination.

This is so helpful. As a visual learner I can see how the wheel can be used for home schooling. It is a fantastic resource for contextualising learning.
Mary Coghlan's comment, August 19, 2013 8:11 PM
I really like how this is presented. A great approach that presents a number of choices to be used for teaching and learning. Being a visual learner, I find this very accessible.

Keynote Address: Sebastian Thrun Demoncratizing Higher Education

Keynote Address: Sebastian Thrun Demoncratizing Higher Education | Innovacion Pedagogica | Scoop.it

Online higher education has a long history, but seems to be always good for surprises. In 2011, the speaker took his Stanford graduate level class online, and 160,000 students signed up. 23,000 graduated at Stanford level. Underlying this class was a teaching model that emphasizes student engagement, problem solving, and free online access. The speaker recently created Udacity, a new online university, which offers university-level courses free of charge. With half a dozen courses underway, Udacity has enrolled north of 200,000 students. The speaker will discuss details of this approach, the underlying pedagogical ideas, the ramification this work may have for the students in the world.

If you have not had a look at Udacity yet you really should - the courses are truely amazing and the way they combine instructional videos together with problem solving quizes really help keep you engaged.

Great presentation to make us educators stop and think.  It can be very empowering with the right approach.  My favourite (among many) quotes:  "If you don't like change, you are going to like irrelevance even less..."

Super long, but insightful and the babies are adorable:)

Muhammad Seedat's curator insight, November 11, 2013 11:09 AM

If schools and teachers don´t adapt to present times, students will be less motivated and have worse grades if doesn´t occur a adaption for their needs.

DNA of a 21st Century Educator Simplified!

During your lifetime you have probably experienced inspirational educators, or witnessed inspiring lectures. But, what about you? Are you such an educator? If not, why not? In this talk, I [Zaid Alsagoff] explored some of the ingredients top educators in the 21st century have, and how we can learn from them to reinvent ourselves to reach our true potential as an educator. This talk was given on the 9 February (2013) at Jazan University (Saudi Arabia).

Audrey's curator insight, August 16, 2013 7:50 AM

I am taking this a bit further. How do you programme someone to become a potential 21st Century Educator?  Start from the home by educating pre-schoolers. The Piagetian and Montessori idea of presenting children with a variety of educational toys and games suitable for their age and helping them to assimilate new learning is basically simple.  This is just the beginning..........
