Why Introverts Hate Small Talk ... A Different Take

Why Introverts Hate Small Talk ... A Different Take | INFP | Scoop.it
We can do it, but we don't like it.
Sharilee Swaity's insight:

Introverts don't like small talk because it's not really friendly ... it doesn't ask people to really get to know each other in a genuine matter. Also, it requires no deep thought ... so it's not that comfortable for introverts, but they can do it if necessary.

Personality Types Under Stress

Personality Types Under Stress | INFP | Scoop.it
Sharilee Swaity's insight:

Different personality types deal with stress differently. Very interesting, and it does make a lot of sense. We see the very best and the very worst of ourselves when we experience stress. It is not surprising that different personality types will be even more evident in times of stress.

How do INFP's deal with stress? By zoning out from reality and getting very conceptual. By feeling lost and a bit spacey. Yes, sounds about right!

9 Famous People Who Proved You Don't Need To Be Loud To Make Real Noise

9 Famous People Who Proved You Don't Need To Be Loud To Make Real Noise | INFP | Scoop.it
Can the meek actually inherit the Earth? Many of the world's most revered leaders have actually been far less outgoing than their public personas would lead us to believe.
Sharilee Swaity's insight:

Interesting article that highlights nine famous people who were known to be introverts, including Johnny Depp, Johnny Carson and Audrey Hepburn.

In some cases, it would seem that their introversion really helped to shape who they were. For example, Johnny Depp is known for playing quirky characters. As an introvert, he takes the time to really think through his characters and their motivations.

And Johnny Carson: he was such a good listener, an introvert characteristic, and that skill made him world-famous.

5 Tips for Parenting an Introverted Child
Babble
The definition of an introvert speaks more to temperament: we require time alone to recharge and pursue solitary passions.
Sharilee Swaity's insight:

Some sensitive tips for parenting an introverted child. One sound simply enough: don't try to make them different, but we live in a culture where extroversion is expected as part of social protocol, and children are pressed to socialize. Perhaps we need to re-think the whole concept of teaching children to socialize, in light of the fact that many of them are introverts.

Another good suggestion from the article: take children to a birthday party early, so that they can get used to their surroundings, before the crowd arrives.

Are the Brains of Introverts and Extroverts Actually Different? - The Crux | INFP | Scoop.it

GIBS Information Centre / GIBSIC's curator insight, August 28, 2013 6:58 AM

Intro vs Extro-  " . . .it’s important to point out a significant distinction. When Carl Jung coined the terms “extrovert” and “introvert” in the early twentieth century, he emphasized that introverts aren’t necessarily shy or insecure—nor are extroverts necessarily empathic or loving. The distinction between the two, Jung wrote, lies mainly in the fact that introverts get exhausted by social interaction, while extroverts get anxious when left alone. Introverts need solitude in order to recharge, while extroverts draw energyfrom socializing.  -  Modern psychologists have added a third category, the ambivert, a personality that combines both introverted and extroverted traits—for example, a ruthless lawyer or CEO who loves to lead but doesn’t crave peer approval. And the Russian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi reports that his most artistic patients tended to drift between introversion and extroversion throughout their lives. “[They’re] usually one or the other,” hewrote, “either preferring to be in the thick of crowds or sitting on the sidelines and observing the passing show.”
