Scoop.it and I fell in love at first glance.

Tim Pixley's curator insight, March 13, 2013 7:57 AM

I agree!  Once you find the right curators and develop relationships with them, they turn into mentors. Some of them are very successful, industry experts, and deeply respected.  Some material gets put out months before they're covered in a college class.  The trick is to be discerning as to what is merely a fad versus a long-term trend. ;)

SocialTech: Connected Libraries: project summary and recommendations | Informed Teacher Librarianship | Scoop.it

Young People identify the school library as an important, unique and valued area within the school. They ask that the BSF Programme look at what the library was for and how it was used.

They want the role of the library to be extended and promoted as a place to relax as well as learn. School libraries are particularly valued as quiet, calm spaces, encouraging and supporting informal learning and learner-directed research.

Filmmaker, Atalanti Dionysis, has also created an excellent website around this web series which she hopes will be used "as a resource for emerging filmmakers and [she hopes it] generates conversation around transmedia & interactive multiplatforms for documentary and that it will act as a hub for collaborations and networking opportunities."

How Users Interact On Pinterest, Study Reveals User Habits

Dennis T OConnor's curator insight, February 10, 2014 11:20 AM

I was introduced to Pinterest by one of my students about six months before the boom that made Pinterest a household word.

I wish I'd seized the opportunity and jumped right in. However, at first I just didn't get it.  Now in hindsight I realize that Pinterest is a curation platform-- one that appeals to millions.  Needless to say I'm now curating a dozen different interests!

Ten Ways to Cultivate a Love of Reading in Students

Ten Ways to Cultivate a Love of Reading in Students | Informed Teacher Librarianship | Scoop.it

"As a teacher, I was obsessed with cultivating a love of reading in my students. I love to read, loved it as a kid too. I'm equally compelled to ensure that my own child loves reading -- and he does. I well aware that I'm on a mission -- but I also know it's a worthy one!

Here are ten suggestions for how any teacher, teaching any subject can participate in this mission, and how parents and administrators can help."
