Five Search Engines You Can Use to Search the Deep Web

Five Search Engines You Can Use to Search the Deep Web | Informed Teacher Librarianship | Scoop.it

Unlike pages on the visible Web (that is, the Web that you can access from search engines and directories), information in the Deep Web is just not visible to the software spiders and crawlers that create search engine indexes. Since this information makes up the vast majority of available content on the Web, we are potentially missing out on some pretty amazing resources.

Connectivism in the context of acquisition of basic digital skills | Guy Cowley's Blog

Learning basic digital skills through use of a network is somewhat of a contradiction.  Hence, I have commented on Siemens’s key principles in the context of this most fundamental learning in a networked world.  In the developing world, the most basic of digital skills (keyboard, mouse, logging on etc.) have to be learned before more valuable skills (searching, publishing) can be developed.

Digital Libraries to School Libraries

Digital Libraries to School Libraries | Informed Teacher Librarianship | Scoop.it

This project’s aim is to explore ways in which school librarians can use DL open content to expand and enrich the school library’s resource base and instructional support. This project uses the newest web-based technologies to help school librarians identify DL open content, integrate open content metadata into their OPACs, and help use open content for learning.

SOLO Taxonomy

SOLO Taxonomy | Informed Teacher Librarianship | Scoop.it
SOLO Taxonomy SOLO Taxonomy (structure of observed learning outcomes) provides a simple, reliable and robust model for three levels of understanding – surface deep and conceptual (Biggs and Collis 1982).

Pre-structural - The task is not attacked appropriately; the student hasn’t really understood the point and uses too simple a way of going about it.Uni-structural - The student's response only focuses on one relevant aspect.Multi-structural - The student's response focuses on several relevant aspects but they are treated independently and additively. Assessment of this level is primarily quantitative.Relational - The different aspects have become integrated into a coherent whole. This level is what is normally meant by an adequate understanding of some topic.Extended abstract - The previous integrated whole may be conceptualised at a higher level of abstraction and generalised to a new topic or area.
