Social and Collaborative Learning in the Workplace | Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies | Information Specialist Training | Scoop.it

Presentation by  Jan Hart: "Social Learning does not equal Social Media + Training – and although social media can support social approaches to formal learning, that is not the whole story, social media has the biggest part to play in underpinning the natural, continuous social learning that takes place everyday in the workflow as part of doing a job."

New MOOC Teaches Educators and Librarians About Copyright

New MOOC Teaches Educators and Librarians About Copyright | Information Specialist Training | Scoop.it
For many of us in the information industry, copyright is the bane of our existence. We need more than a passing familiarity with key intellectual property and copyright issues, yet the environment is incredibly complex. And while copyright issues plague libraries and the teaching profession, most of us without formal legal training and degrees don't feel adequately prepared or comfortable responding to questions we face during the normal course of business. So the announcement that a team of three well-respected librarian-lawyers would be teaching a massive open online course (MOOC) through Coursera about copyright was greeted with a great deal of excitement from within the library community. Fortunately, the free course did not disappoint.

Die Google Blogsuche ist down

Die Google Blogsuche ist down | Information Specialist Training | Scoop.it

Semantic web technologies for the Dresden university library catalogue

Semantic web technologies for the Dresden university library catalogue | Information Specialist Training | Scoop.it

Digital Inclusion Survey | American Library Association (ALA)

Digital Inclusion Survey | American Library Association (ALA) | Information Specialist Training | Scoop.it

The American Library Association (ALA) released the “Digital Inclusion Survey,” a study created in partnership with its Office for Research and Statistics (ORS) and the Information Policy & Access Center (iPAC)at the University of Maryland. It was funded by IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services).

The study found that almost 100% of U.S. public libraries provide workforce development training programs, online resources for finding jobs, aid in completing government forms, and training on technology skills. Almost all libraries also offer free public access to Wi-Fi and online homework help to students. Now 90% of libraries lend ebooks, up from 76% in the previous survey.

Although progress in technology offerings has been made, rural libraries are adapting at a slower pace. For example, less than two-thirds of rural libraries have access to IT staff.

Phil Bradley's weblog: Looking for images? Pinterest over Google | Information Specialist Training | Scoop.it
The default search option for just about everything is always Google - we all know that, and it's very difficult to break that ingrained habit. However, perhaps it's time to explore Pinterest in a little more detail. As you know, it's a tool that allows you to 'pin' images that you upload yourself or that you find on the web to have easy access to them in the future - it's a bookmarking system for pictures basically. There are a number of ways that you can search through the millions of images currently pinned. The search box is in the...

Serendipitous, #informal learning through some ages / Inge de Waard

Serendipitous, #informal learning through some ages / Inge de Waard | Information Specialist Training | Scoop.it

Informal learning has been an important self-constructing force throughout the ages. At present it gains interest with the increase of online learning options (eg. MOOCs in all forms and formats), and it also becomes more visible through the concept of learner-centered learning, personal learning environment... So I picked up a mail from years ago, and revisited it with some of which I learned now. For I wonder how much of informal learning is actually new, in the face of technology I mean.
