Learn About URL Structure in Under 3 Minutes

Learn About URL Structure in Under 3 Minutes | Information Services | Scoop.it

Understanding the structure of a URL helps students understand how information is stored and accessed online—it is one of the basic skills at the foundation of information and digital literacy. Teaching the ins and outs of servers and subdomains can be challenging, which is why we’ve been hard at work creating simple and engaging video tutorials to help you teach these imperative skills to students.

Excellent resource from National Geographic that offers a 5-step plan to deal with the issue of feeding the world's population.

Sally Egan's curator insight, April 30, 11:09 PM

Agricultural production is one of the ways in which people modify the environment more than any other.  Global population is expected to top out at around 9 billion around 2050, so will we be able to sustainably feed all of the entire human population?  This one question brings up many more spatial, environmental, political and social questions--this interactive feature nicely addresses many of the pertinent issues in a very accessible manner.

This article relates well to the Population topic in Global Challenges and issues that arise from the present growth patterns.

Sid McIntyre-DeLaMelena's curator insight, May 29, 1:59 PM

As population continues to grow and agricultural lands dissappear, the issue of feeding the world is becoming a growing concern.

The environmental places of the world are becoming arid and the agrarian places are dwindling affecting the human/environment interaction by introducing agricultural issues.

"Today’s school librarians employ a variety of tools beyond books to educate kids. They use technology to engage students living in a tech-heavy world. They collaborate with teachers to support curriculum. They create “maker” spaces where students can work on arts and crafts projects. They maintain a flexible schedule, so kids can drop in when they wish. And they create a welcoming atmosphere that kids crave."

Navigating the East China Sea

Navigating the East China Sea | Information Services | Scoop.it
How to ease tensions between Beijing and Tokyo over an uninhabited string of islands.

Via Seth Dixon
more...
Albert Jordan's curator insight, April 29, 2:12 PM
Because China is becoming a world superpower, they are beginning to flex their muscle. China is wanting more and therefore taking more. By having legal territorial control over a few small islands, they can expand their exclusive economic zones and take advantage of any natural resources that may exist there. Another part of this though is that in order to project a naval force out to sea, they must be able to get large ships out of port which requires very deep water. The further out into the Pacific they control, the deeper the water, and where the water is deeper they can establish naval bases or refueling sites, etc.
Tracy Galvin's curator insight, May 3, 4:58 PM

There doesn't seem to be a resolution anywhere in the future. Both sides are saying that they are retaliating against something the other one did. Unless they both agree to just start over it will be constant back-and-forth.

Jess Deady's curator insight, May 4, 9:27 PM

Obviously Chinese and Japanese leaders don't want war. There is no reason for them to argue any longer and these islands may be the answer to their problems.
