Seven soft skills that every leader should develop

Seven soft skills that every leader should develop | Information Powerhouses | Scoop.it

Business prowess and the ability to command and lead have for a long time been associated with efficient management and leadership, but big changes are on the way. Together with various transitions in business, management is also changing to incorporate more soft skills than ever. A recent study from Harvard Business Review demonstrated that the requirements for a leadership position have shifted to include many soft skills. Here are some of the most important soft skills every manager should develop and cultivate.

donhornsby's curator insight, November 6, 2014 8:20 AM

(From the article): Humility essentially means that a leader is modest about his or her position in the rank, and refrains from adopting the management style of a power-hungry megalomaniac. A good leader is able to allow others to lead with him, because they know how to balance confidence and humility. Instead of feeding his or her ego with the power and authority that comes with the function, a great leader is able to blend in and set a rhythm for the whole company to follow.

Kimberley Richardson's curator insight, November 6, 2014 11:21 AM

A great list and the only other and most important quality I would add is respect for self and genuine respect for others.  It is the glue that holds people, relationships and organizations together.

The reason for the gap wasn't clear. It could be because not all eighth-grade students take a reading class, so library time isn't a priority.

Team Shake and Other Ways to Group Partners- Engage Their Minds

Team Shake and Other Ways to Group Partners- Engage Their Minds | Information Powerhouses | Scoop.it
I have been using Class Dojo to randomly make teams or select partners, but it isn’t exactly the fastest way to do it.  Last week, I heard about an app called, “Team Shake,” which is so much faster!  It does cost .99, so I just downloaded it to my phone rather than a school iPad.  Once I input the names of the students for a class (or a club), all I have to do is choose the number of groups I want and shake to sort everyone immediately.  Since I have multiple classes and clubs, I am able to save each one separately and load them whenever I need them.

Making The Shift To Mobile-First Teaching

Making The Shift To Mobile-First Teaching | Information Powerhouses | Scoop.it

"When smartphones first became popular, the struggle was to shrink Internet Explorer to the size of a playing card. The internet browser was the de facto app installed on every computer—it allowed you to browse the web. For many, the web browser is a computer. (See Google Chromebooks.)

It quickly became clear that squeezing desktop actions on handheld technology was backwards. Mobile-first thinking changed things. Facebook became mobile-first—which meant that it’s designed to not just be accessed on your phone, but work better on your phone. Websites are often now responsive, scaling to the size of your screen."

Rethinking the school library: Mobile County district launches 'digital literacy' program in 16 media centers | Information Powerhouses | Scoop.it
Now that many school libraries are evolving into media centers, the job of the school librarian, or media specialist, is changing as well.

This fall, Mobile County school officials began a pilot "digital literacy" program at 16 schools to revamp the media centers, and the duties of the librarians who run them.
