It's so easy to go in each day and just put out the fires - it is much harder to develop a plan, a strategy, a set of goals to accomplish by the end of the week or month or year. Take a look at this article and think about what needs YOU have in your library and set some goals to bring your practice into a higher level of service to your school.

The TXLchat provides a forum for Texas librarians (but not limited to Texas librarians) to create, collaborate,  share educational resources, and foster continuous professional growth.
Dr. Laura Sheneman's insight:

Librarians,

Here is your chance to learn to use Twitter for professional development.  Create a Twitter account.  Visit this page and read the upcoming chat topics.  On the day and time listed, search for the Twitter hashtag #txlchat.  Follow along with the conversation.  Don't feel bad if you "lurk" for a while.  Eventually, you will confident enough to share your own response.

Making Doesn't Have An Age Limit - Renovated Learning @DianaLRendina

Making Doesn't Have An Age Limit - Renovated Learning @DianaLRendina | Information Powerhouses | Scoop.it
“Makerspaces are too complicated for elementary students.  You can only get in depth with middle and high school students”

“High schoolers are too jaded for making.  They’ll roll their eyes at you if you give them LEGOs”

I’ve heard variations of these criticisms so many times.  Placing some kind of age restriction on when students are capable of/will be interested in making seems to be one of the most popular excuses educators have for not even considering creating a Maker environment in their school.

We need to smash these notions and assumptions.  That creativity is tied to a certain age group.  That we outgrow our desire for play.  That young children aren’t capable of serious making.  That adults will never have an interest in expressing themselves.

Pear Deck

With Pear Deck, bring interactive, engaging slide presentations to your classroom. Real-time formative assessments and discussions enhance understanding and empower your students’ learning process.
Dr. Laura Sheneman's insight:

Live presentation and slides from the teacher to the students in the classroom. Students can respond to pre-planned or impromptu questions from the teacher or librarian. Question types are only limited by your imagination. Draw it out, ask in a multiple choice format, or take it further if you wish. Students can respond anonymously or with their names, in real time in the classroom. Gain reports, map out responses, and show the class their answers. Great interactive fun. Grades: 3-12.

Tip: Use problem based learning styles to take students through a research model in the library.
