A Curated Guide About The Best Places Where To Learn How To Code: Bento

A Curated Guide About The Best Places Where To Learn How To Code: Bento | Information Economy | Scoop.it

Everything you need to know about web development. Neatly packaged. Learn HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, Rails, Node, and more in each box with a set of links.

Robin Good's curator insight, April 27, 2:28 PM

Bento is a website that, thanks to its author Jon Chan and the many user contributions, has gathered, organized and curated the very best resources available online where you can learn how to code.

From html to javascript, ruby, php, Java, perl, Bento offers learning guidance for over 80 different technologies and coding languages.

Here is how Jon Chan, a 23 years old who launched this project in September of 2013, describes Bento:

"Bento is what I would have liked to have when I was learning to code.

I started learning to code when I was very young - about ten years old. Then, the only things I had available were what I could find online and through a few dense books.

Now, people have the exact opposite problem: how do you break through the noise and find what's actually valuable to learn?

This site is here to help you figure that out."

Bento is a perfect example of effective content curation as it does not simply collect and list all of the resources available to learn each language but it only suggests the very best ones, organizing them in easy, medium and hard and providing also "best of" / direct solutions that save readers lots of valuable time.

Free to use.

Useful, simple and immediate to use. Well organized. 9/10

I selected this article by Jenn Hermann who is doing a 12 month series for Curatti on how to use Instagram to create amazing results for your business. I had the great pleasure of meeting Jenn on Instagram and she knows what she's talking about!

Here's an intro:

"If you’re struggling with how to use Instagram as part of your marketing strategy, it might be because you don’t know what to do and what not to do."

Here are some highlights that caught my attention:

Complete your bio with relevant information

Include your website in the bio – this is the only place where you can include a hyperlink

Do NOT share every Instagram post to Facebook or Twitter. Give people a reason to follow you here

Do not follow everyone that follows you – follow only those with similar interests or engagement

Thank and engage with everyone who commented on your post and use the @ before their name otherwise they won't see it

If you like this topic, we will be covering this once a month - join us and stay informed on how to navigate the digital world - great articles written by professionals who area successful in their area of expertise  - Lots more coming.................join us

How can content curation in a niche information area be monetized? Ask Joe Wilkert.

He writes: "There’s too much content out there anyway and I certainly don’t need access to even more of it. What I really need is more curation and less volume.

I want someone else to read it all and then tell me what I absolutely need to read.

They act as a filter and I pay them because they save me time and make me smarter."

The article points to the added value that traditional content publishers can offer their readers by opening the gates to community curators, who, by doing what they like the most, can bring back lots of more subscribers and attention to their brands.

"...There are sports experts, business experts, local community experts, etc. These curators are reading everything you’re publishing and picking the best of the best... They in turn publish their lists to a whole new set of subscribers; these readers pay for access to only the content recommended by the curator, not the full editions.

The best curators float to the top and drive more subscriptions than the others and you pay them a commission for each subscriber they bring in. Curators establish brand names for themselves, as in, “hey, if you’re into travel you need to subscribe to Bob Thomas…he finds all the best travel articles so I don’t have to.

But there's more, as Mr Wilker points out. The opportunities don't end there.

Rightful. Recommended. 8/10

Interest-based content curation was only a vision 2 years ago when we launched: in a post Web 2.0 world, we felt that more and more we are the content we publish. Whether we liked it or not, we would all need to become media - a problem for busy professionals who don’t have time or inspiration for that and whose primary expertise is often not to be a content publisher.

A significant percentage of working-age Mexicans (PEA: economically active population) have no chance of finding a job as an employee, so it needs to develop the ability to use tools for self-employed or start a business. A useful tool is the Business Model Canvas, which allows a review sheet nine key concepts that has any business, and develop knowledge and actions that increase the likelihood that the company move forward.

What Changes With Google Hummingbird Are Not The SERP Results But How Google Interprets Your Search

What Changes With Google Hummingbird Are Not The SERP Results But How Google Interprets Your Search | Information Economy | Scoop.it
The Hummingbird Google search algorithm isn't about long tail search. It's entirely the opposite. Hummingbird is about taking long-tail, highly unusual and verbose searches, and serving them results as if they were clear short-phrase searches.

Via Robin Good

Robin Good's curator insight, October 12, 2013 2:08 PM

Excellent article by Ammon Johns explaining clearly what the new Google algorithm Hummingbird does and how it really affects the world of search.

Contrary to what has been written by many, Hummingbird changes deeply how Google interprets search queries, especially, long, detailed ones, not the search results directly. This is also why no-one has really seen major changes to web site traffic after Google has introduced the new algo quietly in August.

In simple words, what Google Hummingbird does, in the words of Ammon Johns is: "...making the very concept of many long-tail searches go the same way as referral data.

Google is trying to get away from exact wording to understanding the concepts.

So no matter how verbose or roundabout your search for pizza restaurant in Denver may be, the search it runs is exactly the same as “Denver Pizza Restaurant”, “Pizza Restaurant Denver”, etc."

Read the full article and the examples provided and you will get a good gist of it.

Very interesting. Useful. 8/10
