During the holiday season, online sales shoot up as distant relatives seek to ship gifts in time for Christmas. Some have noted that online shoppers can stay at home and completely render the tradition physical storefront redundant. Online shoppers, whether they think about it or not, hoping that the physical logistics behind the scenes will work efficiently and quickly. This collection of images is a reminder that while it might appear that geography and location are eliminated with online communications, these virtual interactions in cyberspace are dependent on actual physical locations. Sometimes teachers and administrators need a kick in the pants to see what they perceive as problems re-framed in a different way. Adam S. Bellow, author of The Tech Commandments, and founder of eduTecher, spoke to a roomful of receptive teachers at the recent ISTE 2011 conference, and demonstrated some of the ironies and contradictions the education system is mired in. And he had some advice.

Η διαδεδομένη εντύπωση ότι ο Leonardo da Vinci (Ντα Βίντσι, 1452-1519), αν και δεν κατασκεύασε, σχεδίασε όμως το πρώτο ποδήλατο, είναι αποτέλεσμα μιας πλαστογραφίας Ιταλών μοναχών στα μέσα του 20ου αιώνα. Οι συγκεκριμένοι μοναχοί συμπλήρωσαν ένα σχέδιο του μεγάλου καλλιτέχνη και εφευρέτη κατάλληλα, ώστε να αναγνωρίζεται σ’ αυτό ένα πρωτόγονο ποδήλατο. Στη συνέχεια τοποθέτησαν το σχέδιο στο βιβλίο με σχέδια του ντα Βίντσι «Codex Atlanticus» και περίμεναν τις εξελίξεις («New Scientist», Vol. 156, 1997). Ο Ιταλός καθηγητής Μαρινόνι που είχε αναλάβει τη συντήρηση και αποκατάσταση του συγκεκριμένου βιβλίου, εντυπωσιάστηκε από αυτό το ανέλπιστο εύρημα και ανακοίνωσε το έτος 1974 ενθουσιασμένος ότι «ο εφευρέτης του ποδηλάτου τελικά είναι Ιταλός» - καλοδεχούμενο υλικό για τα ιταλικά σχολικά βιβλία και το εθνικό φρόνημα των μαθητών αυτής της χώρας. Όμως, οι μελετητές του έργου του ντα Βίντσι αμφέβαλαν ανέκαθεν για την εγκυρότητα του σχεδίου και υπέθεταν ότι κάποιος μεταγενέστερος, ίσως από το 18ο ή 19ο αιώνα, είχε δημιουργήσει το σκίτσο. ...
