Per the Illinois Real Estate License Act, local units of government are prohibited from requiring real estate brokerage offices or brokers to obtain a local license in order to conduct business, as that is the exclusive domain of the state. It was recently discovered that the village of Bannockburn, in their village code, recognized this restriction but made it incumbent upon the business to point out to the village they were exempt from local licensing.

A majority of the panel ruled that evidence of an infringer’s good-faith belief that the asserted patent is invalid is relevant to inducement. Overturning a finding of inducement and setting aside a US$74 million jury verdict, Judge Prost concluded that while "…we appear to have not previously determined whether a good-faith belief of invalidity may negate the requisite intent for induced infringement. We now hold that it may."

Growth in leisure travel pushed Illinois’ domestic visitor level to more than 99 million in 2012, a record for the second year running.

The state saw a 6.1 percent increase in visitors last year, surpassing a national growth rate of 5.4 percent, Gov. Pat Quinn is expected to announce Monday. The data, prepared by D.K. Shifflet & Associates Ltd., closely tracks results for Chicago, which were announced last month.

“Another year of record-breaking numbers proves that travel is back and the tourism industry in Illinois is thriving,” Quinn said in a statement.
