Illinois will end its “hardest-hit” financial assistance to homeowners in the fall, as funds in the program are nearing depletion. The state will stop taking applications for the funds Sept. 30, Gov. Pat Quinn said Friday.


“I encourage anyone who is facing foreclosure, or is at risk of foreclosure, to act now,” Mary Kenney, executive director of the Illinois Housing Development Authority, the state agency overseeing the program, said in a statement.

After apartment-hunting in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, for months this spring, Dr. Ronald Nath finally lucked out with a two-bedroom duplex at the top of a condominium, listed at $800,000.

 

A day after a crowded open house, Dr. Nath, a Massachusettssurgeon, offered $803,000 for the unit, which was to be a home for his son David, a television news producer. But because of its location and the outdoor spaces on both floors, the unit attracted more than a dozen offers, which prompted the seller to request higher bids.

In a note to developers, the company said that an "intruder" tried to gain access to developer information, prompting the company to take the service down. Sensitive information on that site was encrypted, Apple said, however it's keeping the site down while security is being hardened. No estimate was provided for when it will be back up.
