 I was surprised to learn of the high level of frustration between the larger brokers and their MLSs.   Some brokers said the MLS was their #1 source of angst this year, even ahead of the usual suspects like banks, NAR, and ZTR.  The intensity of the brokers’ anger is what shocked me – combined with the fact that I wasn’t hearing about this from Clareity’s MLS customers and clients.

The head of a group made up dozens of the largest brokerages in the country lobbed something of a ticking bomb into a room of some 500 multiple listing service executives Friday.

 

“You’ve got 10 days,” Craig Cheatham, president and CEO of The Realty Alliance, told the attendees of this week’s Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS) conference.

 

Cheatham wouldn’t elaborate, but suggested that CMLS shouldn’t book their next conference too far into the future.

Regulation of MLSs by the government has to come either from legislation or agency oversight, which itself has to be tracked back to some kind of legislation. There’s no evidence that anyone has seriously considered that with regard to MLSs, and MLSs are not much like the things that have been subject to such regulation.
