Eager homebuyers reduced the average market time for homes sold during July to only 97 days in the seven-county metropolitan Chicago real estate market.

It is the first time the monthly average has dropped below 100 days since September 2006, the height of the housing boom, RE/MAX reports. The faster pace of July sales was accompanied by robust residential sales totals and strong growth in home values. The RE/MAX analysis compared July sales this year to those of July 2012...

The gain puts home prices 12.1% higher than they were a year ago, as all 20 metro areas welcomed price increases on both a monthly and annual basis, led by Las Vegas (24.9%) and San Francisco (24.5%). S&P/ Case-Shiller’s 20-city composite index also posted a 7.1% increase in the second quarter and a 10.1% increase over the past four quarters.

As part of its second-quarter earnings announcement today, local transportation and delivery giant Uber announced its biggest bet on autonomous vehicles yet, saying it would purchase 2,500 driverless cars from Google. In addition, the two companies have agreed to a deal in which Uber will share data from its local transportation services with Google, which will use it to further improve its own autonomous car-routing algorithms.
