Comerica Bank's California Economic Activity Index increased by 1.3 percentage points in May to reach 131.0. May's reading is 47 points, or 56%, above the index cyclical low of 84.1. The index averaged 122.4 points in 2016, two and three-fifths points above the average for all of 2015. April's index reading was 129.7.

• Based on signed contracts, year-over-year statewide pending home sales fell for the sixth straight month in June on a seasonally adjusted basis, with the Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI)* declining 0.9 percent from 119.0 in June 2016 to 117.9 in June 2017. California pending home sales also slipped on a monthly basis, decreasing 0.6 percent from the May index of 118.7.

Home prices continue to hit new highs with the latest increase in May, a slowdown from April’s increase but still up month-over-month, according to the House Price Index released by the Federal Housing Finance Agency.

Home prices increased 0.4% monthly in May, according to the seasonally adjusted monthly House Price Index. This is down from the downwardly revised increase of 0.6% in April. Year-over-year, home prices increased 6.9%.

Statewide home sales (including single-family homes and condominiums) in June 2017 totaled 19,066 homes sold, up 0.3 percent from 19,001 in June 2016.

The statewide median price in June was $216,000, up 5.9 percent from June 2016, when the median price was $204,000. The median is a typical market price where half the homes sold for more and half sold for less.
