Total existing-home sales1, which are completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, climbed 1.1 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.57 million in June from a downwardly revised 5.51 million in May. After last month's gain, sales are now up 3.0 percent from June 2015 (5.41 million) and remain at their highest annual pace since February 2007 (5.79 million).

Distressed sales, including real estate-owned and short sales, made up 8.8% of total home sales in April, a decrease of 3% from last year and 1.7% from March, according to this month’s report by CoreLogic.

REO sales made up 5.7% and short sales made up 3% of total home sales in April. REO sales dropped 2.4 percentage points from last year to its lowest for the month of April since 2007. Short sales hovered between 3% and 4% since 2014.

Most computing these days is done on phones, or on computers with touch screens and simpler but less sophisticated operating systems from Apple (iOS) and Google (Android or Chrome).

"As we approach the 10-year anniversary of the pre-crisis peak in U.S. housing prices, we're just under 3 percent off that June 2006 peak nationally, and 23 states have already passed their 2006 peaks," said Graboske. "The result is that equity levels are rising nationwide for the most part. In Q1 2016, 425,000 borrowers who had been underwater on their mortgages regained equity, bringing the national negative equity rate down to just 5.6 percent.

On May 27, the real estate board filed a notice of appeal to challenge the ruling in the Federal Court of Appeal and on Friday, it asked the court to stay the tribunal’s decision.
