This Typeface’s Letters Are the Average of the World’s Handwriting | Design | WIRED

This Typeface’s Letters Are the Average of the World’s Handwriting | Design | WIRED | Typography+Design | Scoop.it
The Universal Typeface Experiment lets anyone, from anywhere in the world, draw the letters of the alphabet and then submit them into a massive database.
Lissa Marques's insight:

This is an interesting concept that BIC is developing. An accumulation of people's hand writing translated into a universal typeface. I think this could be really useful, but the program straightens the hand-written letters, which diminishes some of the human aspects of hand writing. I'm curious to see what the final typeface looks like and how it works with sentences.

Magazine by Tommaso Dal Poz | LLGD.NET | Typography+Design | Scoop.it
Online visual inspiration magazine by Jaap Grolleman.
Lissa Marques's insight:

This magazine is a work of typographical art. I appreciate how each page is unique to the story its telling. The titles and the way the text columns are set up relate to the content of the story, and that is what graphic designs create, art that has purpose. The story gets told through visual just as much as it does in the words.

I designed/re-design logos and branding for all 30 Major League Ballparks. Take a look! - Imgur | Typography+Design | Scoop.it
Imgur is home to the web's most popular image content, curated in real time by a dedicated community through commenting, voting and sharing.
Lissa Marques's insight:

These baseball stadium logos are so cool! It almost unifies the MLB but still lets each place shine with details that make them unique. My personal biased favorite is Wrigley Field. Although most stadiums have been bought out by major companies, these logos tie in the corporate identity in a way that makes them more fun, which is what you want when you go watch baseball.

Today, we bring you a set 30 Bauhaus-inspired posters. Bauhaus poster design characterized by uniformity of color, movement, simplicity, simple finishing and facade, the perfect combination of great typography, vibrant colors, and texture are very effective in catching people’s attention.
Lissa Marques's insight:

As I grow in my graphic design career, I find I prefer to draw inspiration from the past, and I believe it's a strong tool to learn from design history. Lately, many designs are based off trends and what's popular right now, but why not be timeless and take something that was rooted in history and create something with a fresh take on it? Even historical art that isn't necessarily graphic design should be taken into consideration.

Pattern Library

A bPatterns for the people, by the people

Lissa Marques's insight:

A beautiful selection of free patterns you can download. Patterns are great for use instead of boring blocks of color. However, you don't want to run the risk of infringing on another designer's work, so be careful how much you use the pattern, and don't base your whole design on it.

14 Powerful Pictures Of Anti-Fifa Graffiti In Brazil

14 Powerful Pictures Of Anti-Fifa Graffiti In Brazil | Typography+Design | Scoop.it
Brazilians are angry. They are angry with their government for pumping millions of dollars into the funding of an eight-week extravagance.
Lissa Marques's insight:

In my last post, I "scooped" about the Coca Cola design campaign for the World Cup, but I completely missed what's happening to the people in Brasil. They have to deal with the effects of the World Cup coming to their country and how money is being pumped into the event and nothing is being done about the crumbling economy and favelas. These graffitis are not only beautiful, but compelling and tell a great story for the whole world to see. I hope with all of the World Cup coverage, that these will get attention and something will be done.

The best in visual communication
Lissa Marques's insight:

As a Brazilian, the World Cup for me this year brings about a lot of pride and excitement. This campaign makes me even happier. Definitely a must read article about how Coca-Cola developed their "The World's Cup" campaign and how they selected Brazilian artist Speto to create the beautiful illustrations shown. The World Cup truly is the most democratic sport as it brings everyone from all income levels together. And now that the World Cup is being held in Brazil, hopefully it will shed light on the great economic divide that is currently in place.

20 pro tips to improve your handmade design | Graphic design | Creative Bloq

20 pro tips to improve your handmade design | Graphic design | Creative Bloq | Typography+Design | Scoop.it
Handmade design is immensely satisfying - seeing your concept come to life using tactile techniques, whether it be hand-drawn illustration, paper-cut or more, is a pure joy. If you want to know how to begin a paper-cut project or level up your hand-drawn illustration skills, there's bound to be something here for you.
Lissa Marques's insight:

Handmade design is something I've been starting to use a lot more lately, and these are some great rules to help guide and fine-tune your skills. My personal favorite is #16, "Don't Rely on Software." The brain is smarter and quicker than software, so don't let yourself fall back on that. The more you can do by hand, the less Photoshop tutorials you'll have to go through.

This posters draw me in because they take different forms of graphic design and combine them to form great representations of what the movies are about. There are so many styles represented here and they all are great in their own ways.  From collage to cartoon to borrowing from other art and using filters and effects, each one is unique and captures the essence of the films.

I'm loving this campaign from Sagmeister & Walsh. They take simple phrases and create art through type form. It's the mix of realism and photoshop that gives these images a sense of wonder and intrigue. It creates a sort twisted elegance. Definitely worth look at!
