Tesla Stock Soars After Big Earnings and Car Sales

Tesla Stock Soars After Big Earnings and Car Sales | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it
Tesla shares hit another new high after stronger than expected earnings.
John Boitnott's insight:

From Scott Budman at http://nbcbayarea.com

Tesla is for real.

If you had any doubts, just look to Wall Street this morning. Shares of Tesla Motors stock (TSLA) have soared about 25 percent so far this morning. Over the last couple of months, the share price has doubled, adding close to four billion dollars to its market value.

Even more impressively (at least for me, a non stock holder), look at your local roadways. Teslas are everywhere these days. They're outselling The Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf, despite the fact that the Model S is much more expensive. What was at first a trickle of Teslas in the wild has become a steady stream.

According to the company's latest earning report, Tesla sold 4,900 cars over the last three months, with sales expected to pick up even more steam in the month ahead. Net income for the quarter was $11.2 million dollars, sharply up from the $89.9 million dollar loss recorded the year before.

On top of all that, Consumer Reports just published a very favorable review, giving the Model S a 99 out of a possible 100 rating. Yowza. This from the magazine that couldn't bring itself to recommend the iPhone 5.

There are, of course, future roadblocks in the way for Tesla. But recently, at least, this company has done just about everything right, and it's being richly rewarded.

Reddit's new multireddit feature brings a massive change to its front page

Reddit's new multireddit feature brings a massive change to its front page | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

It’s been years since community news sharing site Reddit has made a major change to how things appear on its coveted front page of popular submissions, but today the company announced a new feature called multireddits that could do just that.

Reddit enables its users to submit links or self-authored posts to a variety of “subreddits” (aka a specific category). The multireddit feature enables you to combine several of those subreddits together, which can then be subscribed to on its own. It’s worth noting that the capability to create a multireddit has been around for a while (manually typing each subreddit’s name in the URL), but now the Reddit team is making it easier to share and browse through them. Previously, if you wanted this kind of functionality, you’d have to create another user account and subscribe to only the subreddits you wanted to collect or create a new folder of content on iOS app AlienBlue.

“We’re working on making browsing reddit easier and more diverse,” Reddit developer Max Goodman (aka chromakode) wrote about the new feature. “The first step is giving you deeper control over what makes up your front page.”

Google Glass is for Dorks — And Doctors

Google Glass is for Dorks — And Doctors | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

From Dylan Tweney:

Google Glass is one of the most polarizing user-interface inventions to come along in decades.

We'll have a chance to see just how polarizing this week when thousands of developers crowd into the Moscone Center in San Francisco for Google I/O, the tech giant's sixth annual developer conference. Since Glass just started shipping to its earliest adopters, Google I/O will probably have the highest concentration of Google Glass wearers anywhere to date. That means we'll have plenty of opportunity to watch people struggle with its interface -- and to watch bystanders' reactions. Expect lots of photos of Glass-wearing nerds to pop up in your usual media streams.

On the one hand, Google Glass users look like the Borg, creeping us out as they stare into a digital middle distance that no one else can see. It also raises troubling privacy implications, since it can be used to take photos and video almost surreptitiously.

On the other hand, the device is undoubtedly a harbinger of technologies to come that are even more integrated into our bodies.

The question now is: How do we make the most of this invention without making ourselves look like complete dorks?

6 case studies & infographics: the optimal time to send emails

6 case studies & infographics: the optimal time to send emails | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

Email has the potential to deliver a strong ROI for marketers, though the precise response rates depend on a number of factors including the subject line, type of offers and the time of day the email is sent.

The best way of accurately finding the optimal time of day to send your emails is to run tests, taking into account fluctuations around pay day and annual events such as Christmas and bank holidays.

According to the Econsultancy/Adestra Email Marketing Industry Census 2013 only half of businesses (49%) are currently testing the time and day of their email messages, so either the other 51% already know the optimum time or they're working off a hunch.

So to give some food for thought on where to start looking and testing, here are six case studies and infographics that look at the best time and day of the week to send emails...

Why Email Subscribers Unsubscribe [INFOGRAPHIC]

Why Email Subscribers Unsubscribe [INFOGRAPHIC] | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it
One of the most important things that you can do to drive repeat sales is to create an email list (at least according to this study). One of the huge advantages of email is that most businesses achieve about a 20% open rate on email and a .3% opt-out rate. Compare that to social media and email has a huge advantage, not to mention it is much more likely to be the last touch prior to sale. Email closes if you do it right. This is a great infographic on why email subscribers leave and why they stay. I would add one best practice: consider giving them something. Coupon, discount, widget – little drives people to act than a good incentive or a deal. Let me know your thoughts on this one!

I don´t think you need a blog, I think is good to have a blog. The important thing is not the blog itself, the important thing is the message you want to give using it; the, you can give the message using the blog, but, you can give the same message directly, using social networks and plain text messages (without links). Many customers don´t want click, want the message.

It has become clear that social media is turning into quite the process. It’s becoming more and more important, so many different tools and advice columns keep popping up to help businesses and individuals stay organized and successful when it comes to this newer marketing effort. This has caused many companies to create a full-time social media position for experts to help manage the many social accounts, follow analytics, get creative with engagement, etc. It takes a lot of time and effort, but the payoff is only increasing as social involvement increase.

MizWalidah's curator insight, May 2, 3:55 AM

There aren't many band blogs as it can be too time consuming strays away from actually making music. So SEO really comes into play when a band is finding it difficult to be found on Google maybe because their name is to similar to a person, place or thing that is more popular but may or may not have anything to do with music, much less your band. My band  still suffers from this situation. The band's name is St.Lô which is also the name of a small town in France. this small town also shares some serious history during WWII. And then of course there is St.Louis.

SEO became apart of our blogging and social media gameplan. We use a highend paid Tumblr template for our website and then also have Facebook and Twitter accounts. Rule #6 in the SEO suggestions above, utilization of the Long Tail helped a great deal. We had to differentiate our name from the towns with keyword that we did not have in common. We had to think about how would be search for ouside of the obvious simple search. Also where we couldn't write lengthy articles about everything we did, we instead updated our facebook and blog regularly, if not daily. Because the blog and the facebook/twitter pages are linked the cross referrencing and the amount of times in which people have shared the band with has prevailed. Frequency over volume at the end of the day won out!! NOw when you search for St.Lô Music we rise to the top over WWII history. We still have yet to rise to the top if someone simly types in St.Lo but we are steadily rising to the top and are atleast on the first page of the google search.

SEO matters for band blogs as they do for business. You want to always be the first choice when someone searches for your band. Continually optimizing your meta keywords and tags to better fit the culture of your band will help you stand out from all that may be similar.

Martin (Marty) Smith's comment, May 2, 12:52 PM
Great comment MizWalidah. I wold modify one point. Instead of "continually optimizing your meta keywords and tags" I would find ways to ping in fresh content such as User Generated Content from reviews or comments. Once a website I've SEOed is inside of Google's algorithm changing meta values that matter (mostly the page's title) can HURT SEO. I change titles VERY VERY carefully since the first rule of SEO is DO NO DAMAGE. The QDF (Quality Deserves Freshness) movement post Panda and Penguin LOVES it when a page pings, so I love the 1% of visitors who are willing to comment, review or otherwise contribute User Generated Content.

I DON'T play with meta nearly as much as you imply since to do so can look SPAMMY and cause real harm. The most important idea is creating content other people want to share. This is why I love GAMES and CONTESTS especially for bands. High engagement content such as Contests and Games can help with SEO and they can help create a distinct brand all bands need. Appreciate your enthusiasm, but be careful about meta (especially title) changes. Marty
