Starwood is welcoming its new property in Melbourne in 2014. Sheration Melbourne Hotel is the first of five Sheration hotels opening in the Pacific region in 2014. Sheraton has 174 rooms, which is located in the heart of Melbourne DCB. The hotel is decorated by newest technical and newest facilities, which includes Led Smart TV with wireless internet connectivity, work space, and modern marble bathroom. As the five stars and new hotel in Melbourne, Sheration provide the most modern for guest expectation. Located in the centre of Melbourne DCB, Sheration will get the potential guest from other competitors as it is very convinient for the guest to stay at Sheration. The hotel will improve their bottom line and get their money back quickly if they have something different compared to others. Sheraton provide a comfortable and stylish for travelers and locals. Located in the centre of Melbourne, guests who stay in the hotel will have a convinient change to reach the city shopping centre, visit city tours, and plenty of choice to catch the public transports.

Sheraton is quite young hotel in Melbourne CBD compared with Grant Hyatt, or Crown Hotel. Sheraton is a global brand and now it marked for special back to Melbourne where located in a second big city in Australia. The owner of Sheraton is Golden Age Development Group. It has 174 rooms with many stylish, and has 11 Terrace Suites and they use high luxury furniture. Moreover, Sheraton is also has restaurant and Terrace Bar in the third floors. This is a good design and suitable for outside party, because it located in the proof top of the hotel. Sheraton is having more facilities than the normal hotel that it has swimming pool, sauna, spa, and fitness as well. There are 6 meeting room with many size from small to bigger one. In my opinion, this is a weak point for Sheraton. Because in Melbourne CBD have a lot of five star hotels with long-term experiences. Sheraton will have many competitors about price, services and the quality of services. The target market has just suited for high class, businessperson. If the purpose of target market is for those parties, I think they do not have time to enjoy all of good facilities and the risk will be high.

The article presents key success factors in the hotel. Many interesting points have been presented in customer service, advertising, cost control, and product differentiation which are considered to be key factors to success in the industry. In customer service, the front-desk workers are explained as the gatekeeper of the hotel because this employee provides the customer's first and last impression. Advertising is also described as a tool to draw customer’s attention, to retain them. Then, Managing costs is a critical factor in a hotel's success. Most hotels vary their rates according to high and low seasons. Additionally, the establishment of a loyalty program enables hotels to lower rates for repeat guests while charging different rates for others. For product Differentiation, hotels thrive by offering guests a unique experience. This uniqueness may stem from the location: A rural hotel in the heart of the Tuscan countryside may offer Italian cooking classes, whereas a boutique hotel in Morocco might offer a hookah lounge. With all the key factors which are mentioned in the article, I think it is needed for hotel owners and hotel managers as well.

San Marcos city in Texas in the US recently has become a destination. Thus, many tourists choose San Marcos as their destination and this leads to a growing demand for hotel rooms in the area. This article provides information about the desperate need of hotel in the city because many players and their families come to the baseball tournament. But, there is not enough accommodation for them. The aim of the article is obvious; it wants to draw more investors, big hotels to invest in San Marcos. The article also gives some examples of successful investor in the area such as Embassy Suites that opened in 2008. It offers investor a bar, a restaurant, suites, and adjoins the city’s 78,000 square foot conference center; The success of the Embassy Suite can be seen clearly through the hotel rooms are sold out every weekend from April 11 through May. Many businesses in San Marcos are waiting to have more hotel capacity when this demand is fulfilled, tourists will come to San Marcos and also other businesses and hotel could develop together. In my point of view, the article provides growth demands of having hotel which come along with the successful hotel in the area could help investor, and hotel owners come and invest in this potential area.

Being green goes directly to your bottom line. Being green goes directly to a higher long-term value of your property. Being green goes directly to your front doors which open wide to bring guests back again and again. Being green goes directly to keeping staff long-term because management clearly cares for their health and well-being. Hotel and resort has begun to be acknowledging about the idea of protecting the environment by saving energy, and using recycled products. Draycott hotel is one of the green hotels that encourage its clients to come and enjoy their stay and save energy, recycle such as turn off lights, TV, faucet, and air conditioning when not in use. This is a very good point because I think many business men, tourists are more aware of the important of saving energy, using green products to protect the environment. Not only in the lobby but also on the hotel website, GREEN is the most highlight point of the hotel. This is a unique feature that differentiate Draycott hotel with others. In my opinion, with all of features about green, the hotel will easily compete with other hotels in the competitive industry.

For example: the price for having breakfast meal in Switzerland’s five star hotels can reach $47, while in Singapore and Japan reach $25.85 and $21.66 respectively. Hong Kong reaches $21.30, Czech Republic and Germany cost $12.69 and $12.52. This information is much needed for new hotels to look at when they are working on setting costs for breakfast meal and with the affordable cost, the hotel can attract more client to opt the room that include the breakfast meal as well. No bath tubs, the demise of the clock radio, do not enough outlets, no local papers, and the high price of breakfast is five common problems with business hotels. The hotel businesses do not hear about these problems until they read the surveys, so guest feedback improve problems and understand guests what they actually want. How to design hotels for wellness tourism

The needs of hotel guests are ever evolving, and the hospitality industry continues to adapt to meet their demands. Today’s travelers are exceedingly focused on healthy living and expect to maintain their wellness lifestyle when traveling. Wellness isn’t just the physical aspect of a balanced wellbeing, it also encompasses beauty, healthy diet, relaxation, stress relief and meditation. All these elements should be considered when designing a hotel.

In a recent Spafinder Wellness 365 consumer survey, travelers indicated they are looking to have more wellness options in their destinations, such as healthier food, spa/massage, nature experiences, eco-conscious properties, gyms with cardio and weights, healthy sleep programs and meditation/mindfulness programming. The focus on wellness design has become an extension of sustainable design that many hospitality brands are embracing. A few years ago, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide created the Element brand to attract the eco-friendly guest. The focus was on sustainable products and construction methods as well as sustainability in the operations of the hotel. It was the first hotel brand to mandate that the product would be designed and built at the minimal level of LEED Certified. Wellness is the sustainability, balance and enrichment of our physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual selves. Today, more and more hotel chains are creating designated brands to appeal to the wellness traveler. InterContinental Hotels Group has developed the Even brand that focuses on guests’ total wellbeing. Others, such as MGM Grand in Las Vegas, have instituted wellness floors where wellness amenities, including air and water purification systems; hypo-allergenic materials; antibacterial surfaces; and state-of-the-art lighting for restful sleep are present in each room on the floor. It has evidently been so well received that MGM is expanding the number of rooms with these features. Incorporating wellness in public spacesThere are plenty of ways to incorporate wellness elements into an existing hotel. In the public areas, food options in the market/sundries area can offer healthier fare. HEPA filters can be added to restrict airborne contaminants. Expanding the fitness center with workout space and additional fitness equipment is another option. The days of a “two-bay” fitness center with one piece of each type of equipment are slowly disappearing. The technology in fitness equipment has also grown to include individual TV screens and iPod docking stations to allow guests to personalize their workouts. Cardio equipment will always be in demand in the fitness center, but guests are increasingly looking for open spaces for yoga, meditation and to focus on their core and balance. Some brands are retooling their standards of design and construction to require these larger fitness centers. Some hotels even offer classes in aerobics, Zumba, yoga and spinning. Hotel staff need to be familiar with nearby parks and outdoor areas where guests can be offered the means to engage in walking, running, hiking, biking, and other sporting and tour activities. It is evident in recent property improvement plans that brands are trying to accommodate this growing demand. One way to increase the size of the fitness center is through the elimination of the locker room. Depending on local ordinances and building codes, these days a smaller, ADA-compliant restroom is sufficient for the needs of the guests in the fitness center. If possible, a single unisex bathroom also will allow you to capture the space utilized by the second one. Incorporating wellness in guestroomsIn the guestroom, guests are looking for more of a “retreat” atmosphere. A bigger emphasis is put on developing a serene sleep experience with premier bedding, pillow options and a complete blackout feel in the room. Ergonomic task chairs are becoming the standard for most brands, and healthier options in the minibar is also gaining traction. Lighting is also important. It is essential to incorporate a mix of natural, task and ambient lighting to capture all the different needs of the guest. Technological strides have been made by PTAC manufacturers to also lessen the noise associated with these individual HVAC units to minimize compressor noise. In the bathrooms, spa-like fixtures such as rain showerheads are being added to aid in guests’ relaxation escape. These once-pricey plumbing fixtures are now commonplace and are much more economical, allowing them to be utilized in every tier of hotel. Incorporating elements such as these enhance the guest experience and can lead to repeat business. Good business senseBeing sensitive to healthy travel is also good business. According to research conducted by SRI International, wellness tourism is a $439-billion market worldwide that is expected to increase 9% annually through 2017. With statistics like these, it is clear that the relationship between wellness and hospitality is one that is not going away anytime soon. As this trend rapidly grows, hoteliers should keep in mind that a guest who lives a balanced lifestyle at home should be able to live the same way while traveling. A hotel visit should be an extension of guests’ lives, giving them everything they would need to keep their daily routines in working order.

Reliable Internet connection is almost as important as a comfy hotel bed (Jolie, M). A slow, unreliable internet connection is a source of huge frustration for today’s business traveller when staying in hotels (Jolie, M). Slow internet connection was the top guest complaint before a recent infrastructure upgrade and consolidation exercise (Jolie, M). Reliable broadband provision is a must-have in today’s hotel room and since the upgrade, the number of complaints has fallen dramatically and internet issues rarely come up (Jolie, M). Some guests are even commending the internet service offered by the hotel, which is having a knock-on effect on customer loyalty and repeat business (Jolie, M). Knowing the significant key of the internet, Hong Kong Hotel has upgraded their internet to 200MBps. I think this absolutely solve all problems that cause from a slow internet. Thus, every video conference now can be made smoothly, easily in every room in the hotel. This is a very important feature that the hotel is trying to focus on. In addition, the hotel also offers 25 min relaxation massage, 25% off for two nights stay, free flow of standard drinks are other features that draw customer’s attention.
Reference: Jolie, M 2013, “ The importance of internet connection in hotel industry”, Retrieved April 4, 2014, from <http://www.quadriga.com/>
;

This is a good new for every single hotel in Australia. The application offers as a good tool to help hotels to set up and manage their hotel application quickly and cost effectively set up right on iPhone, iPad, and android devices. Currently, we can see that there are more and more tourists who use their tablets and mobile phones as an equipment to help them to search information, promotion from hotels. Thus, this application is good for both hotels and tourists as well. For tourists, they can easily access to the huge information about hotel services, promotion… Hence, they can find the hotel that fits their budget and even save more money if they find a good promotion from hotels. For hotels, advertise on website might be good but cost money and time. With appy hotel, it is easily to manage ( easier than managing a Facebook page), to approach their potential customers. As a result, the hotel could draw more customers’ attention. In my own opinion, this application will succeed in appealing hotel owners as well as tourists.

The new hotel in Perth is one of the best decisions from Starwood. As we know, Perth is developing rapidly with a lot of new restaurant, bar and retail outlet as well around and also the location is situated in the heart of Perth. I think this hotel will appeal a lot of tourist when they come to Australia to travel. Other things that also help to appeal tourists are thirty suites which comprised lush sheets, a down and a patented pillow-top mattress – and an ergonomic work area and the penthouse suite will live up to its name with an expansive rooftop deck, private pool and intimate entertaining space. The hotel offer two kind of distinct food and beverage venues: the Lobby Lounge and a full service restaurant which provides its clients a range of healthy, nutritious fare and also offers an indulgent spa, large-scale fitness center and an outdoor infinity swimming pool that I think their clients would feel happy when the hotel is trying to focus on their health. This hotel is quite good for business traveler because it has over 1,000 square meters of meeting space, comprised of an 800-square meter ballroom and 340-square meters of divisible function facilities.
