Faurecia, Mitsubishi to produce automotive bioplastics

Automotive supplier Faurecia SA has signed an exclusive agreement with Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. to co-develop bioplastics designed for mass-production for use in automotive interiors.Faurecia’s Nov. 8 announcement said it plans to develop a full range of bioplastics, which it expects to see boom in the period 2015 to 2020.

The machines include a Traub TNC 30/42 twin-turret, single-spindle turning centre, a Traub TNC 65, 65mm bar capacity twin-turret, twin-spindle turning centre with Y-axis on the upper turret, B-axis and C-axis and two Nakamura-Tome WT 250 twin-spindle, twin-turret turning centres. Similar in configuration to the TNC 65, but more powerful, the Nakamura machines also have a 64mm bar capacity and Y-axis.

Ultrasonic machining process makes light work of composites

Researchers at Loughborough University (Leicestershire, UK) have developed a device that they say could revolutionize the way cutting, drilling and milling of composite materials is accomplished. It involves a technique called ultrasonically-assisted machining (UAM), which uses a specially designed piezoelectric transducer working in tandem with a traditional turning, drilling or milling machine.

Ametek completed its acquisition of optical equipment specialist Zygo for approximately $280 million net of cash acquired. 
ISVI signed a distribution agreement with Integrys Ltd. to address the Canadian machine vision market for high-speed, high-resolution cameras. It also signed a distribution agreement with Virtech Labs Bt. to promote and sell its high-speed, high-resolution cameras to the Hungarian machine vision market.

DANOBAT Composites launches automation equipment for preform production

The ADMP can be used with fabrics, other textiles or unidirectional tapes. The machine places the cut fabric onto moulds with complex geometries. Composite parts, such as an aircraft wing skin or frames, can then be manufactured using a resin infusion process.

The installation of the TruLaser 5040 with BrightLine is expected to add around £1m to the company’s turnover from profiling.

Continental Structural Plastics acquire Magna's composites operations

Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the composites operations of Magna Exteriors. This acquisition, which will make CSP the world's largest sheet molding composites (SMC) compounder and manufacturer, includes the assets of five Magna facilities located in North America.

"This acquisition further demonstrates our commitment to become the global leader in light-weighting solutions," said Frank Macher, chairman and CEO of CSP. "The incremental capacity and resources gained position us extremely well for on-going growth and the ability to pursue a number of new business opportunities."
