Writing for the web – what’s the difference?

Writing for the web – what’s the difference? | Indie Publishing Digest | Scoop.it
This is a guest post by Michelle James, post-grad student in writing and publishing at UQ and all-round lovely lady. Michelle interviewed me about what working as a web copywriter entails and the fundamental differences between print and online.

Jean McKinney's insight:

You kept them in a box in the garage, sure - but you were published.

Today, that isn't the choice. Independent publishing is a legitimate avenue - but it may not be for everyone.  Seth;s discussion helps make the choices clear.

Jean McKinney's insight:

The brave new world of digital content is like the Old West: a frontier where the rules get written as we go along. The freedom of internet publishing also opens the door for many scams and fraudulent practices. They were always around, of course - but now we can see them clearly and learn from them with the click of a mouse.

Smashwords: 10 Reasons Indie Authors Will Capture 50% of the Ebook Market by 2020

Smashwords: 10 Reasons Indie Authors Will Capture 50% of the Ebook Market by 2020 | Indie Publishing Digest | Scoop.it

I think indie ebooks will account for 50% of ebook sales by 2020.

What do you think?

On one side of the debate, you have folks such as myself who believe all signs point toward indie ebook authors capturing an ever-greater percentage of the ebook market.

On the other side you have folks who think self publishing represents an insignificant portion of the book  market.  The naysayers think we indie optimists are delusional.

This FAQ for Indie authors answers commonly asked questions about book publishing and marketing.
Jean McKinney's insight:

Sorting through all the advice, information and warnings about publishing can be completely overwhelming - and it stops so many people from getting their work out into the world.  It's easy to become paralyzed in the face of all those choices and case studies and best practices.  Finding a way to cut through the chatter is the first step toward bringing writing and other creative work into the public sphere.   It's not lack of knowledge that stops people from publishing. It's too much knowledge.
