YouTube resists indie music streaming ultimatum (Update)

YouTube resists indie music streaming ultimatum (Update) | Indie Music | Scoop.it
The independent music trade organisation on Friday said YouTube had refused to withdraw threats over the Silicon Valley giant's plans to launch a music streaming service, despite 24 hours of negotiations.
Mitzi Lee Rodriguez's insight:

You Tube is the biggest form of streaming music for free online. I believe that You Tube should just leave everything alone,  Why  is this now  an issue, People just want to broadcast their talent on you tube and I don't see anything wrong with that. Now they have to come to agreements with You tube on their new terms, new terms that are not very favorable for the independent label. I guess they don't want many people watching their You Tube channel. I'm a fan of independent music.

Mitzi Lee Rodriguez's insight:

So my fellow independent artist are feeling bullied well I don't blame them. The vice president of You Tube says that they have paid out billions of dollars over the past years to the music industry, I guess this makes it okay to threaten to block their videos if they do not accept their crapy contract. The independent label counts with channels like You Tube to promote their music and gain fans, it sucks that after all this years of good service they want to go ahead and give them this crapy deal. The new music service will be called Music Pass and its going to cost $5 a month with ads and $10 for the ads free version. What a deal?? yeah right!

Mitzi Lee Rodriguez's insight:

Of course all my articles have been on this topic,  I feel strongly about it. To me it sounds like YouTube is being a little bit of a bully. I am very against that. See we have a bunch of amazing independent artist and I'm sure will have upcoming ones too like myself :) I've seen this topic many times before recently and it scares me because it seems like there is no turing back. Im afraid some artist will be willing to just get cut off from You Tube than to agree to their new terms an of course I understand. Hopefully You Tube comes out with a better deal than the crapy one that they have offered. Screw that I think we should invent something  new like You Tube for indie music.

BBC: YouTube's new music service is shortchanging independent acts

BBC: YouTube's new music service is shortchanging independent acts | Indie Music | Scoop.it
Who's going to argue that stuffing a veritable world of music in your pocket isn't awesome? Probably very few. One of the downsides to the digital age, though, is that musicians often get the short end of the stick when it comes ...
Mitzi Lee Rodriguez's insight:

So now the indie label is being pretty much threaten, see if they do not sign to probably the lowest rates their video will be blocked from You Tube, how about that, wow they are really making it hard for indie music. This is stuff thats been happening since before but apparently nothing happened before. I really hope that this gets delayed, because this kind of sucks. See I believe that many independent artist won't go through with this so this means that I won't be able to listen to their music through You Tube. What is going on!

YouTube accused of trying to strong-arm indie labels into poor deals ... | Indie Music | Scoop.it
"They are in danger of launching a streaming service that lacks the innovative and cutting edge sounds that independent artists bring. Would music fans be willing to pay for such an inferior product? I don't think so," Bragg said ...
Mitzi Lee Rodriguez's insight:

So apparently this is all happening because You Tube wants to compete with spotify. They want to launch their own online service. Now I ask myself the same question they asked in this article, will music fans be willing to pay for this product? well I think not, meaning that everybody looses, because if they don't agree they will have their video blocked, now I believe that not only You Tube will loose some fans but of course independent artist as well. This is terrible, I am a fan of independent music and my plans have always been to promote my music through channels like you tube al well.  I don't think its right whats happening. This is a subject that really interest me because like I said I am a fan of this type of music, I am a supporter of new upcoming artist. Lets help them out not ruin their careers.
