The Department of Veterans Affairs wants a dying Vietnam vet in Washington state to repay $6,300 in pension benefits even though its paperwork backlog was responsible for the overpayments.

The VA has no wiggle room for a dying Vietnam Veteran with Brain Cancer but they have  all the room in the world to abuse  Veterans with false appointment schedules, delayed medical treatments while VA staff get unlimited bonuses!   Really seem assbackwards to me! 

 

The VA tells the Times federal law dictates their response.

“Cases like this, it kind of breaks our heart,” VA spokesman Randall Noller said. “But we don’t have the wiggle room.”

The plan was to let my son call my dad on the way to school this morning. My parents had taken my boys to a Veterans Day parade in Dalton during a visit last weekend, and the older one in particular was impressed. He wanted to wish his Army Ranger-turned-Gramps well on the occasion.

Instead, 45 minutes before we would get in the car, it was my dad who called me....

What they do isn’t the same as those who put on the uniform, of course, but they are an important part of the whole nonetheless. The VA reached out to hundreds of thousands of veterans who were sidetracked in a bogus scheduling system, some waiting more than a year for doctor appointments.
