Colombia's road to revolution - TES News

Colombia's road to revolution in rural education has spread to many countries in Latin America introducing effective child centred education that reinvents everything: from the classroom climate and the methodology to the delivery of the curriculum and the teacher-training strategies.

Marie Schoeman's insight:

The pupils can explain to you what they are doing, how they are learning. The teacher is going from group to group, giving them feedback during the learning process,” Colbert says. “The teacher is spending more time with slow learners, asking questions. This is the role a teacher should play: an activator, facilitator, orientator – not just a teacher transmitting instructions.

A one- day international seminar on ' Making special education inclusive- from rhetoric to reality' was conducted at the Tamil Nadu Open University on Tuesday.

Via Liz Hooijer
Marie Schoeman's insight:

Dr Farrell stated that inclusive education had been a work in progress, with governments all over the world seeking to attach importance to it. Underlining its importance, he said, “Inclusion is a human rights issue. At the school level, it is dependent on presence, acceptance, participation and achievement of all sections.”

He, however, expressed regret that many governments, including India’s, perceive inclusion only as providing quality education to all children, whereas the focus should be on reducing barriers for learning for those at risk of exclusion or marginalisation. “It is estimated that 20 per cent of pupils in the UK have such needs,” he added.
