The Gauteng provincial government believes it can train teachers at 2 200 schools in how to use tablet computers in education before the 2014 academic year commences in mid-January.

It would be wonderful if the full-service an special schools could be prioritised and the devices fitted with access features so as to maximise the potential for learning support.

Prime Minister Geingob of Namibia opened the 2013 8th e-learning Africa conference 2013 in Windhoek, co-hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) and the Ministry of Education. He said the complexities and demands of the 21st century make change an absolute imperative, adding innovation in the 21st century is so crucial for growth and development and links to knowledge society development. He further said African nations need to move away from conservative and traditional approaches to learning and teaching, which he says are prevalent in most education systems and focus on the requirements for knowledge economy and society development.

by making more effective use of education technology, education systems in Africa can achieve greater equality of opportunity.
