THE Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) is encouraging its member-companies engaged in agribusiness financing to adopt an “inclusive growth” model.

IFC Global Consumption Database - Next 4 billion data revisited

A market of $5 trillion per yearThe roughly 4.5 billion low-income people in developing countries collectively spend more than $5 trillion a year (in $PPP 2005). Indeed, the lower consumption segments spend more than the middle and higher consumption segments combined. They spend $2.3 trillion a year on food and beverages alone.

The Global Consumption Database is a one-stop source of data on household consumption patterns in developing countries. It is designed to serve a wide range of users—from researchers seeking data for analytical studies to businesses seeking a better understanding of the markets into which they are expanding or those they are already serving.

Hilltribe Organics in Thailand: The good egg

Hilltribe Organics in Thailand: The good egg | Inclusive Business in Asia | Scoop.it
In the remote village of Baan Huai Nam Yen, in Chiang Rai, many hill tribe farmers are doing their best to take care of their chickens. They have built coops far from the community and roads to ensure that their fowl live in peace. They feed the chicken with clean rice grains, beans and even insects. After meals, the chickens are allowed to roam freely around fruit plantations, grazing for food and stretching their legs before their next mealtime.
Markus Dietrich's insight:

Hilltribe Organic's free range and organic eggs featured in Bangkok Post today. Available at a Villa supermarket near you

Forget CSR, do something bigger | Business, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com

Forget CSR, do something bigger | Business, News, The Philippine Star | philstar.com | Inclusive Business in Asia | Scoop.it

The country’s top business conglomerates and richest Filipinos should really put their money where their mouths are on inclusive growth. They ought to forget tokenism which, in all honesty, their CSR projects are all about. They must do something bigger and whose impact can be seen and felt.

An honest to goodness program to attack poverty and make a difference is also in the self interest of our ruling social and economic elite. Not only will this improve the buying power of our masa for their products and services, it may also stop them from feeling deprived enough to resort to more drastic means to correct the social order. It is now happening in Thailand, it may take time to happen in the Philippines but eventually it will happen here too.
