A strong majority of these creative rules are simply customer relations rules of thumb.

 

Updating your image, changing your visual branding, writing your business' bio, publicizing your page, adding photos and responding to customer mentions are all things that continue to let your customer know that you are they're in the virtual community - not to be forgotten.

 

Most of these things that businesses do on social media to connect with their customers parallel what an individual does on their personal accounts - I think it would be helpful for a business to look at their facebook/twitter page the same way they would look at an indivudual's page:

 

Like a human would do to simply stay connected to their outside world and maintain their image,

photo updates, status updates, exciting news, info about the user, various means of communication with friends and answering public forums are all key ways to create this persona for your social media business
