Always Be Influencing

Most decision-making processes within organizations are non-linear -- they're heavily influenced by current business conditions, the personalities and business units involved, and the relationships and context everyone involved in the decision bring to bear on the project. As a result, smart marketers use content, social selling, and effective influencer relations to impact the selection process because they recognize that every individual, regardless of seniority or industry, is impacted by current trends, social media, the opinions of their colleagues, and leaders in their respective industries.

The only reason why this might make sense is to reach those into whom your prospect report (to generate awareness and air cover). But even then, your work should be outbound oriented (get their information!). Practically speaking, given a limited amount of manpower and budget, why would you want to waste time on inbound if you know everyone in your market.

How to Optimize Your Copywriting for Search Engines in 2014 - Marketing Technology Blog

How to Optimize Your Copywriting for Search Engines in 2014 - Marketing Technology Blog | Inbound Marketing | Scoop.it

We still have training sessions with our clients to clarify a lot of questions regarding search engines and how to write to improve your visibility. Plain and simple you don’t write for search engines, you write for people. I believe Google’s algorithms have finally advanced to recognize authors and authority, sharing and popularity, citations for distinction, and content to feed the intent of the searcher.+

Copy is one of the most important aspects of onsite Search Engine Optimization. But with Google constantly pushing new algorithm updates and changing the rules of the game, it’s really hard to keep track of what works. Moreover, it’s difficult to know whether your optimization efforts are doing more harm than good to your rankings. Here are 13 tips that will help you write content that ranks in 2014. Michael Aagard, ContentVerve

In 2014, the infographic absolutely focuses on the right experience for the reader. I don’t honestly believe this is SEO Copywriting, I’d argue that the tips are simply great copywriting tips. From an SEO standpoint, there’s still an opportunity to ensure that great content is presented well on your site, though. Compelling titles, related articles, site and navigation hierarchy, visual media, mobile responsiveness… all of those aspects need to be interwoven with your content strategy to ensure an awesome user experience. When that happens, great search engine rankings will follow! +

The End of the Internet?

The End of the Internet? | Inbound Marketing | Scoop.it

The World Wide Web celebrated its 25th birthday recently. Today the global network serves almost 3 billion people, and hundreds of thousands more join each day. If the Internet were a country, its economy would be among the five largest in the world.

Yet all of this growth and increasing connectedness, which can seem both effortless and unstoppable, is now creating enormous friction, as yet largely invisible to the average surfer. It might not remain that way for much longer.

Fierce and rising geopolitical conflict over control of the global network threatens to create a balkanized system - what some technorati, including Google’s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt, have called “the splinternet.”

Karen Kerski's insight:

PPC seems easy but it isn't. Money is wasted by not revising ad, targeting and custom landing page. It can take weeks of tweeking to find the best working combination of copy and landing page. Broad targeting of location, audience and keywords can result in high click through but not the customers you need. Hiring a professional can change that or you need to take the time to teach yourself. Which is more affordable? DIY or hiring someone who does it as a profession.

I don't like driving into a landing page with nothing other than a download call to action, but this Hubspot deck is worth making an exception. These stats are helpful, beyond helpful.

My favorite is this one that corrects the belief that using social media less promotes more engagement when the opposite is in fact the case.

Pull back to tweeting 2x a day, a suggestion that was made about a year ago for Atlanticbt.com's social schedule and you will only receive 57% of the LIKE and 78% of the comments.

Schedule doesn't create engagement your content DOES, but all things being equal don't let the uninformed push you into bad decisions about schedule.

Anyone who’s heard Sara’s story knows it’s exhilarating and motivating, but to see her live brings a new dimension to her story.  She’s fresh, exuberant, funny and completely passionate about helping women feel and look their best, and about reforming all of the misguided trends that have kept in women in painful and ill-fitting undergarments over the last 50 years.
