2013's most notorious event has been Banksy's month long show in New York City, "Better Out Than In" and to no surprise he ranks #1 this year.  So that we are able to feature a variety of artists we've grouped the whole of Banksy's epic October exhibition under the above stencil which was used to announce the 31 pieces that followed, and subsequently became the most viewed piece of the whole year.

Proposed FDA Nutrition Label Changes May Undermine Your Future

Proposed FDA Nutrition Label Changes May Undermine Your Future | Walk With Me, I'm Walking In Wellness | Scoop.it

"...In reality, the changes will sidetrack consumers from the true nutritional issues, like considering the nutritional “density” of a food (i.e., if it is rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients) and if chemical sweeteners and other fat-promoting ingredients are present..."

Jacqueline Taylor-Adams's insight:

Four key points, where you should really focus your attention:  DOES THE NUTRITIONAL LABEL FOCUS ON THE TRUE NUTRITION ISSUES CONSUMERS SHOULD CONSIDER?

  1. The nutritional "density" of a food (i.e., if its rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients)
  2. are chemical sweeteners and other fat-promoting ingredients are present
  3. do not be sidetracked by "calorie count" and "serving size" - these numbers are not reflective of the cause of obesity.
  4. serving size will reflect the portion size Americans are eating, not the portion size that should be eaten

If the label doesn't reflect quality information, what can we do as consumers? One thing I will share is be aware, read labels, and turn your focus on the four points mentioned above. Then, teach your family to do the same.

While, this article does reveal some important facts and reminds us of where our focus should be, I do feel the article's direction is a bit inflammatory and takes too long to get to the point.

The Caledonia Argus | 2014 nutrition trends to follow and not follow

The Caledonia Argus | 2014 nutrition trends to follow and not follow | Walk With Me, I'm Walking In Wellness | Scoop.it

Spring is almost here, and with the change from winter to spring we can renew and find ways to get going into a healthy habit routine at the dinner table. Here are some of the most recent food and nutrition trends to help motivate and guide us in the right direction in 2014.

Jacqueline Taylor-Adams's insight:

You'll find this poll of dietitians revelation of nutrition trends are pretty much in line with the current climate of activity around nutrition. The only trend that concerns me is "weight loss." I feel that people are more obsessed with weight loss than being healthy. "Skinny Body" does not equal "Healthy Body" even for an overweight person.

Example, A minister at my church who is on fixed income, has some life threatening ailments and is on oxygen, was convinced by another member to spend $50 on a weight loss product. While the minister is overweight her immediate issues are not weight and the first issue that should have been addressed is the inflammation in her body.

This is the type of situation where I feel "Weight Loss" over "Healthy Body" can be dangerous. Here at I'm Walking In Wellness with Soul Purpose, we want to help educate you about the body, body systems, and what healthy looks like as well as encourage to get to know your body so you can be a better communicator with your healthcare practitioner and a willing participant in your health and healing.

How to Achieve Your Goals – Goal Setting Strategies That Work

How to Achieve Your Goals – Goal Setting Strategies That Work | Walk With Me, I'm Walking In Wellness | Scoop.it

"There is conclusive evidence that success in life flows from being happy first—we don’t get happier because we reach our goals, we reach our goals because we start in an emotionally flourishing place.

Working towards your goals can give you meaning and purpose in life. But what are the best ways to get to where you want to go? There's a science to goal-setting and goal pursuit—here's what the experts think you should know."

Jacqueline Taylor-Adams's insight:

I love this article. It takes a different, but realistic approach to goal setting. We can do the technical all day, but it's something within that  drives us to actually make things happen.

Then, you must ascertain what is it within that's driving you. What do you REALLY want? This article reminds me of my experience of commercial and fine artist photographer Stephen Hudgins (www.StephenHudgins.com). Consulting with Stephen about a photography project is like going to the psychiatrist! Talking about intent. He grills you to get you to understand what you are truly looking for in the end result, the image. This process results in a satisfied client and less headache for him.

Let me give you an example, I met Stephen working on a project with an indie label that wanted to do a vixen calendar. Well after a go-see at Stephen's studio, he showed the project manager each woman's image to see which one the project manager liked. Once they found an image he liked, then Stephen asked, what is it about this image you like? "She's pretty, sexy, but you don't know if you can get her." These factors became the guidline to set the tone of the calendar. Now, it took over four meetings just to get to this point. The label was having go-sees and meetings with people without a clear image of what they wanted.

Don't just read the article, but do the strategies as well. Please, share your outcomes here. Now go forth and grow http://smarturl.it/GoalSettingStrategy

9 Reasons Every Young Professional Needs a Side Hustle

9 Reasons Every Young Professional Needs a Side Hustle | Walk With Me, I'm Walking In Wellness | Scoop.it

Millennials... What’s the best way to fill (some of) the extra hours? With a side hustle. It could be anything: a business venture, start-up, developing an app, volunteering your time, part-time job or even tinkering with a blog.

The list is endless. All you need to do is pick something. Here are 9 reasons why every young professional needs a side hustle.

Jacqueline Taylor-Adams's insight:

Make your side hustle your Soul Purpose. Join I'm Walking In Wellness for the 15 minute CHANGE YOUR LIFE webinar on Thursday, February 22, 2014 at 8pm ET and 12p ET on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Register Now

Here are 9 reasons why...

  1. A Side Hustle Could Lead to a New Career
Too often, our day jobs become routine or fail to challenge us. Find a side hustle that inspires, and you will grow by leaps and bounds. Why? Because it will be something you want for yourself.
  2. A Side Hustle Could Lead to a New Career
Instead of quitting your job and diving into something totally new, dabble on the side. Test the waters, see if there’s potential (ahem, money) and if the opportunity shows promise, make your move.
  3. Your Twenties Are the Best Years to Hustle
As twentysomethings, many of us are single or without kids. With a flexible schedule, this is the perfect decade to experiment with projects we’re passionate about and find where we truly belong. Bust it in your twenties, and the hard work will pave the way for a life of purpose.
  4. You Will Become a Time Management Champion
With a full-time job and side hustle, you begin to look at 24 hours strategically. Suddenly, you find spare minutes before work or squeeze in a few before bed. If you’re chasing a dream, time management keeps you on track and on the grind.
  5. Your Twenties Are All About Taking Chances
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. So your side hustle fails. OK, move on and try another. Some of the biggest life lessons happen when things don’t work out, anyway. Roll the dice because even when you lose, you win.
  6. Your Side Hustle Will Make You Better at Your Real Job
Never forget: all skills are transferable. You might pick up a cool design strategy while creating an app that informs your judgment at the ol’ day job. One hand feeds the other, and no time is wasted — even if your side hustle doesn’t pay.
  7. You Will Keep Your Mind Active
If you put your brain on ‘shutdown mode the minute work ends, you leave all kinds of productivity on the table. A side hustle makes you more inquisitive and more capable. Like playing a sport or an instrument, the more you train your mind, the sharper it becomes.
  8. You Might Stumble Into Your True Passion
If you like music, find a way to spend time in that space. If you like to write, start a blog or contribute to one. Spend time with people and places that naturally interest you, and you could fall into a role that makes you fulfilled. Without a side hustle, you may never find it.
  9. You’re Worth More Than a 9-to-5
Bosses like Zapata cut the work day short because they believe our generation needs a greater work/life balance. What we really need is a work/hustle/life balance. A full-time job, even one that requires a 50 or 60-hour schedule, won’t teach us everything. And too often we’re more concerned about the company’s bottom line than our own.

Each week, build in time to do what you love. The results will surprise you.

What’s your side hustle? Let us know in the Comments!

How To Stay Engaged With So Many Social Networks

How To Stay Engaged With So Many Social Networks | Walk With Me, I'm Walking In Wellness | Scoop.it

"How many social networks do you use daily? With more and more social networks gaining in popularity and in value every year, it has become too much for some people to stay engaged."

Jacqueline Taylor-Adams's insight:

The actual title to this article by Evan LePage is "Why People Ignore Social Networks and How To Stay Engaged." I restructured the title to fit what feel is real importance of the article.

Evan states, "It’s not that you’re ignoring them as much as it is that you’re not taking full advantage of them. When people see the potential of a network but aren’t getting the utmost value out of it for whatever reason, be it a lack of time, resources or understanding, they’ll tend to ignore it in favour of networks that they are utilizing in full."

These two sentences sums up the motivation for this article. To address these issues Evan has offered some strategies to help you get the most out of social media networks. As Evan states, the first obstacle is determining which social networks will work best for you. That is determined by your goals. So first you must become clear as to your goals. Once you know your goals, then you can determine how each social media network can best support you in your goals and where to spend your time.

Though the flow of the article is a bit disjointed, read through to the end to get the gold.

Judge Gives Green Light to Class Action Lawsuit Against General Mills Over All-Natural Claims and GMOs...

Judge Gives Green Light to Class Action Lawsuit Against General Mills Over All-Natural Claims and GMOs... | Walk With Me, I'm Walking In Wellness | Scoop.it
A judge has refused to dismiss a class action lawsuit accusing General Mills of misleading consumers by marketing its Nature Valley products as ‘all-natural’ when they allegedly contain GMOs.
Jacqueline Taylor-Adams's insight:

What's this all about, Franky?! "The issue of whether GMOs belong in 'all-natural' products is at the center of a growing number of class action lawsuits against big food brands from General Mills to Heinz and Campbell Soup."

Answers we need to discover:

  • what are GMOs
  • how do GMOs impact our body systems and cells
  • are GMOs easily identified on food product labels

Facts we need to realize:

  • Look deep - FDA standards equate to the all-natural label not necessarily meaning all natural or healthful
  • Keep praying over your food or kiss it up to God and spit it out to the devil (LOL)

__________

GMO - Genetically modified organism

  • A genetically modified organism is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. Wikipedia
  • Although labeling of genetically modified organism (GMO) products in the marketplace is required in 64 countries, it is not required in the United States and no distinction between marketed GMO and non-GMO foods is recognized by the US FDA.
  • The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) urges doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients. They cite animal studies showing organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility. Human studies show how genetically modified (GM) food can leave material behind inside us, possibly causing long-term problems. Genes inserted into GM soy, for example, can transfer into the DNA of bacteria living inside us, and that the toxic insecticide produced by GM corn was found in the blood of pregnant women and their unborn fetuses. the pomegranate has been incorporated into skin care: Armenian Pomegranate Bath, Body & Soul!

the pomegranate has been incorporated into skin care: Armenian Pomegranate Bath, Body & Soul! | Walk With Me, I'm Walking In Wellness | Scoop.it

Give “gifts with purpose.”  We offer a complete line of pampering and spa products for those special people on your list and most important for you!

Jacqueline Taylor-Adams's insight:

With its incredible antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties and ability to encourage radiant skin, the pomegranate has been incorporated into skin care.

It can help with a number of skin care issues that women of color can face, including dry skin, age spots, hyper-pigmentation, acne flare-ups and acne scars.

  1. Cell Regeneration. Pomegranates help protect the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) and helps with skin cell regeneration in the epidermis and dermis (inner layer), increasing circulation and healing the skin, aiding in tissue repair and wound healing.
  2. Sun Protection. Pomegranates have sun protective compounds that protect the skin against free radical damage, help prevent skin cancer, relieve sunburn and reduce the signs of sun damage. Pomegranate seed oil works to protect against skin cancer because of ellagic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant found in large quantities in pomegranates, which researchers have found inhibits the growth of skin tumors.
  3. Anti-Aging. Pomegranates protect against premature aging by helping reduce the signs of skin aging caused by sun damage and exposure, such as wrinkles and fine lines. Pomegranates also help prevent hyperpigmentation and age spots.
  4. Youthful Skin. Pomegranates promote smooth, firm skin by promoting collagen and elastin production and soften skin.
  5. Dry Skin. It is a great ingredient for skin care because its small molecular structure allows it to penetrates deeply into the skin. It works for most skin types, (which depends on the skin care ingredients pomegranate is combined with).

    Si
nce pomegranate oil penetrates deeply into the skin, it is effective for treating dry skin. It soothes dry, cracked and irritated skin. It contains punicic acid, an omega 5 fatty acid that hydrates and prevents moisture loss.
  6. Oily Skin/Combination Skin. Pomegranate oil even works for oily skin and the use of pomegranate have been beneficial in skin care products for acne prone skin, to combat breakouts, reduce scarring and sooth minor irritations.
