Frontiers | All Quite on the Lab Blog Front. | Immunity | Scoop.it
Those of you paying close attention to this blog will have noticed an absence of postings recently. There is a very simple explanation for this - sometimes science is, quite frankly, a pain in the butt.
Edan Foley's insight:

One of the research interests in my lab is to identify ubiquitin editing enzymes that modify the immune response to the Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) cytokine. As part of these efforts, we have conducted an RNAi screen of ubiquitin ligase modifiers that affect the TNF pathway in HeLa cells. We have kept this project public since the very beginning, posting progress updates and sharing results and methods on the Frontiers site. This post is a brief, frank and hopefully slightly humorous assessment of the reality of progress in research.

Frontiers | Evaluation of putative TNF pathway elements in the control of the SCF-bTrCP complex. | Immunity | Scoop.it
BACKGROUND
In response to signals from the TNF receptor, the SCF-bTrCP E3 ligase ubiquitylates I-κB. Ubiquitylated I-κB is destroyed by the proteasome.
Edan Foley's insight:

A continuation of our lab blog examining the regulation of the TNF pathway by ubiquitin ligases and deubiquitylation enzymes. In this posting, we examine the effect of candidate TNF response modifiers on the SCF-bTrCP complex.

Angela Merkel needs to tackle the issue of Germany’s uneven university funding.
Edan Foley's insight:

Nature editorial ponders the future of research at German universities under a large coalition. At a time when many nations are cutting back on financial support for third level education, Germany appears likely to continue sustaining national research institutes. Such long-term investments maintain Germany's position as an economic powerhouse and place the country in an ideal position to capitilize on emerging opportunities.
