Some good advice from Nuno.

The Digital Rocking Chair's curator insight, October 15, 2015 3:25 PM

Nuno Bernardo:  "In the context of a shrinking market populated by increasingly fragmented audiences, transmedia storytelling provides a viable alternative to the conventional TV and Film production business."

Nathan Schultz's curator insight, November 25, 2015 4:54 PM

This article provides a perspective on transmedia storytelling from a more pragmatic standpoint:  It is easy to say that good multimedia storytelling involves multiple different platforms all working together, but it is much harder to impliment this idea, from a purely economic standpoint.  Making a movie or video game is vastly more expensive than writing and publishing a book, just to give an example.

This article helps to tackle that problem by explaining how entrepreneurs can best sell their ideas to companies or developers who have the capital to provide support for their projects.

Kajsa Hartig's curator insight, September 16, 2015 3:50 PM

“Where does film end and theatre begin? What would be the criteria for online performance? Does it have to be live? Does it have to be happening somewhere that’s not my bedroom? Is it only theatre if I’ve had to put on trousers and leave the house? Imposing criteria is useless, it suffocates imagination and it stifles one colossal strength of theatre: the potential for infinite variety.”

What you already know about story still applies – great characters you want to spend time with, worlds that invite you in, stories building to moments of epiphany, recognition, revelation, catharsis and all that good stuff.

But the process of getting there changes from platform to platform. You have to develop narratives the right way for the right platform.

Here's a fab article on sharing your business stories across platforms. Let's face it, we've got a story to share on our website, in brochures, books, whitepapers, blog posts, presentations, SlideShares, video, animated cartoons....the list goes on.

I just had a conversation the other day with a company wanting to share some of their customer stories digitally -- without ever spending time on the story itself. They were just in a rush to the technology, thinking the platform would generate a good story. Big mistake.

One story may not translate well in to all different channels, however -- nor achieve the results you seek. In this post transmedia expert Japhet Asher shares lots of insights about how NOT to lose your story as it morphs across platforms.

There is great wisdom shared -- and some good stories -- that will help you preserve the core of your story, and how to think about moving stories into different media.

Let's get more story wise, so when we share our stories across platforms, great results happen.

The use of transmedia and platforms in teaching

Dr. Pamela Rutledge's curator insight, April 20, 2015 12:32 PM

The media isn't the message (and Jeff Gomez never says that).  It is the grand disrupter, the gamechanger, the brain bender.  The innovations in media technologies have upended traditional storytelling across all industries and challenged storytellers to learn new tools.  Media technologies and network connectivity have also, as Gomez points out, rewired consumer's brain with a new set of assumptions and expectation about the function and role of media.  Where media becomes part of the message, is in how it frames content within that set of expectations and meanings.  Our expectations of content, impact and interactivity are vastly different across platforms, i.e. mobile versus the big screen or web versus TV or digital versus paper.  The new environment as Gomez notes, demands integration of expectations in the content design
