Direct marketing is more than just direct mail and mail-order catalogs, it involves a variety of activities such as; direct selling, telemarketing, Internet, print media, and database management. The article above clearly justifies advantages and disadvantages of direct marketing and as we can see it has more advantages then disadvantages. This article looks at the advantages and disadvantages of Direct marketing. It tells us that this is basically business from manufacturer to consumer without the involvement of middlemen. The most common form of direct marketing is generally done by mailing the consumer or contacting them directly, so they can know about the products or services. The real question this article brings to light is, is direct marketing the best way to gain consumer engagement? Or is this style of marketing a way of the past?

Direct marketing can be seen as an aggressive marketing communication tactics that is approaching new consumers. However, usually consumer finds direct marketing such as door to door sales or telemarketers very annoying due to it is an unsolicited services, therefore, before marketers conduct a direct marketing it is better to plan carefully in advance.

Of course there are benefits that direct marketing can contribute, for example no adding cost, direct response, and measurable profit, whereas before to implement direct communication with consumers, marketers better understand first what will the disadvantages. For example of email marketing, will the message deliver successfully to the audience ? simply asking ourself, how many advertising email we have really read about it and how many email just go directly to the junk box? The effectiveness of email is limited especially when the consumer is not interesting in the product/services you offer. in addition to email marketing, let think about telemarketing. again if we reflect ourself as a consumer what do we think? I personally find annoying especially when I am working studying or when i am busy. Even though sometimes I will still be very patient to listen what are they trying to communicate , however, it will change my attitude toward the brand especially when the telemarketer don't have a good communication skill or understanding . here I mean that they don't understand I am trying to say no to them or they keep pushing me to accept their offer.

Above are the two personal experience that I have fond that direct marketing sometimes might not be an effective communication, however, it is not mean that direct marketing is a bad method, we just need to plan it before we do it, to reach our target consumer.

In this day and age I do believe that social media is very important in marketing. It is an easy way for companies to connect with consumers. However as social media changes rapidly, it appears that the images and visuals are becoming more attractive than the text. It is evident from the stats above that consumers responded better to the visuals.

what is visual social media marketing? now days social media has become a significant marketing platform, and social media like facebook twitter and instagram are all having heavy visual content function. image is a easiest way to attract consumer attention. According to the article, image has receiving a large amount of audience in social media. it can also be remember quikly compared with a text message. In my opinion, social media is also a critical marketing platform to gain brand image awareness and consumer engagement. consumer compared the quality and reputation of the product by going on a social group on facebook looking feedback from others or even determinate the quality by looking the picture, Marketer should always be cautions when they are dealing with social media.

From my point of view, visual can determinate consumer attitude toward the brand just same as packing, it changes our perception just by changing color or shape. Marketer should also choice the right picture to put on it website, it is not necessary only publish the photo of the product it can also be a picture of a beautiful destination or a image of an animal to attract consumer attention and engagement to the page.

I agree with the main idea of this article that celebrity is key for any startup, by using the right celebrity for the brand, company can build brand equity, it also the best way to present your brand to the world and gain attention of potential customers. However I can't agree with author's opinion that even if the potential customers or users are not fans of the particular celebrity they would not be interested in the particular brand or product. For example, if company will choose a young celebrity for target age of 50, those customers won't be interested in the particular brand simply because they might not know the celebrity or interpret the massage this celebrity sending to them in incorrect way.

celebrity endorsement is one of the most popular marketing strategy is the past years, however, the purpose of celebrity endorsement is to bring up the maximum effect on it brand's positive image and bring benefits into the company.
using celebrity as a company's represent image could be very effective to increase consumer engagement if we choice the right star.
Three suggestions has been advised
1 credibility, of course in order to gain consumer trust of the brand, the celebrity that is representing the brand is also very crucial.
2PR value , talk about the product, say about the story , create the topic to attract consumer engagement. spreading the message by using PR
3Brand awareness, celebrity apparel is always one of the hottest topic what they wear what they use where they go. it will be a great impact on brand awareness once celebrity is advertise the brand by it actions and behave.
Alysse Woodward's comment, August 20, 2013 12:48 AM
Connecting celebrities to an organisation/product/service is a way or marketing seen many a time. This way of marketing creates emotional attatchments for a consumer, if the consumer sees a celebrity using the product automatically the consumer will think the product is good. “If this product is good enough for a celebrity, this product is good enough for me” people may think.
For me personally, when I see goods endorsed through celebrities I think that their career must be lagging, and doing an advertisement is a bit on the side to keep the celebrity in the media. It does not make me want to go out and buy that product.
However the 3 steps that can turn celebrity endorsements into big gains:
1. Credibility
2. PR Value
3. Brand Awareness
I have to say I agree with what the article is getting at. Although some may have the same thoughts about celebrity endorsers as me, when you see someone famous doing this people are likely to communicate about this, creating brand awareness. “Did you see so and so endorsing that product?” some may say! Automatically that creates brand awareness for that product as you have just mentioned, the celebrity, the product and the brand.
