This article showed the advantages of direct marketing for companies, consumers and also why telemarketing is still a useful tool to get information. Direct marketing is an advatage for companies because they have control over the marketing message. It is eay to pick who to target, cost effective comapred to other mass market marketing and it is easier to measure results. For consumers with pamphlets and brochures, personalised marketing materials can be received by them to meet their preferences. The article also talks about telemarketing. Yes it is an old tool but it is still useful as the one-on-one contact with the consumer generates a response and opinions can be recorded directly from that customer. Also with their numbers saved to a database that customer can be contacted again for follow up things

I agree direct marketing is a useful tool, but i believe that it require decent amount of research and effort before it can be effective. Thus it would cost a lot of money to complete compare to some other communication methods. Therefore I believe it heavily depends on company's finance capability

I dont know about this one. Direct mail has fallen in efficienncy and effectiveness recently. It could still be beneficial to few industries such as fragrance where samples can be sent out in mail but otherwise direct marketing online is far much more effective than direct mail. It would be interesting as to how this industry changes and evolves or just dies out.

i reckon you are right about the effectiveness about direct marketing, especially most household now preferred ""no junk mail "" it makes so much harder for direct mail.
Winina Tan's comment, May 9, 2013 6:49 PM
i feel that now the only type of direct marketing that i now encounter is only when i signed up from a certain store a brand to receive their latest deals and promotions. rather than just a mass spam of email that one usually receive, companies are now making the consumer choose weather or not they would like to be advertise too. and in a sense this can create customer loyalty and brand equity, as the only ones that they are marketing to are the clients that are interested in the brand.

a very nice article showing the steps on how to create a effective marketing communication mix. but one must also consider on how to correctly and effectively implement this strategy to gain the most profitable and advantageous outcome. reflecting and evaluating how one strategy had progressed and seeing if the marketing strategy needs to be changed or altered for a more desirable outcome should be a process as well.
Sashika's comment, May 9, 2013 9:21 PM
Ryan makes a good point, that by making customers understand marketers, they can create value for them. This is very true, when the marketer is able to make the customer believe what they want them to believe about a product, then a customer is able to find value in the product of service. However, it is not just a case of making cusotmers believe what you want them to , it is believing in the product yourself which leads to other believing in it too/
Jieyi Situ's comment, May 9, 2013 11:52 PM
The article shows the importance of the marketing communication mix strategy. Combining different marketing techniques is definitely more effective than only using one technique as a strategy. As a result, developing an effective marketing communications mix is necessary for business.
