How SoLoMo Is Revolutionizing Digital Marketing | The Marketing Zen Group

How SoLoMo Is Revolutionizing Digital Marketing | The Marketing Zen Group | IMC- Consumer Engagement | Scoop.it
If you aren't familiar with SoLoMo - Social, Local, Mobile - yet, here's why the marketing world will be soon.
Keane Orchard's insight:

Social, Local, Mobile - we are already starting to see this concept kick in with 'faceboook nearby and google+' this is particularly effective for small businesses as it focusses on consumers in the nearby area.

This means that consumers within a certain distance can be made aware of your business via their mobile device or computer ensuring that the promotion is targeting a specific geographical segment.

I can see this becoming a very popular form of engagement, however in areas such as high streets etc it may become overwhelming with so many businesses in a confined space.

When Social Meets the Real World - Engagement, Authenticity are the Challenge

When Social Meets the Real World - Engagement, Authenticity are the Challenge | IMC- Consumer Engagement | Scoop.it
Slam bam thank you ma’am.

Sounds kind of vulgar doesn’t it? It’s certainly no way to treat someone that we’d want to have a meaningful, fruitful relationship with.. Topic: Customer Experience"

Keane Orchard's insight:

This article points out the issues with ineffective use of social media marketing and that content is key; unfortunately simple facebook 'likes' or twitter 'retweets' just don't cut the mustard and on their own are not meaningful customer engagement

Danielle Mcnae's curator insight, August 19, 2013 3:35 PM

This article gives an insight into how B2B companies can use social media as a communication platform and engage their consumers. From a shift in traditional marketing in B2B (interactive marketing) this article looks at how digital media such as social media sites (Facebook, Linkedin, YouTube..)  can connect customers and companies more effectively.

"It is incredibly short-sighted of any CMO, whether in B2B or business-to-consumer (B2C) to discount its value and say it is irrelevant to their marketing efforts" - Louis Columbus

This form of marketing is forever seen in B2C markets however social media is becoming the new norm for engaging consumers despite what market they are in. B2B companies needs to consider this shift and the value it can bring to their companies. The current and new generation of B2B marketers heavily relies on social media for knowledge and information on brands. Furthermore by marketing via social media they will be able to communicate to new customers that they haven’t been able to engage with in the past.

I believe the welcoming of social media in B2B markets should not be viewed as an end of an era of traditional marketing, but as a new form of communication to new customers. In an ever-changing business environment it is crucial to always be adapting to keep up with the ever-changing consumer.

Farah Ahmad's comment, August 20, 2013 3:04 PM
I think the introduction of social media in B2B marketing is a great opportunity for the market. The risk would be negative feedback and a bad reputation spreading faster which could be damaging for new companies. I agree with your insight Danielle. It's important for companies to be able to adapt and change to fit in and keep up with the environment and satisfaction of its consumers.
Rebecca Taylor's comment, August 22, 2013 6:12 PM
I agree with you Danielle and find your insight very interesting. This is an exciting time for marketing and advertising and this new technology is opening so many doors and creating new opportunities. I also think the main benefit for the consumer is that they are receiving relevant advertising that is aimed directly at them, as opposed to vague, unrelated adverts.

I agree with Lucy. The social networks are getting very familiar in our daily lives and we interact with friends even strangers via the social networks. That' s why more and more companies create their own pages on it and get feedback from the consumers directly.
Savanna Steele's comment, August 22, 2013 2:51 PM
In this article it states that not only should the companies be focusing on brand reputation but creating long term relationships-loyality. They referred to using social media via Facebook, LinkedIn and Tweeter as avenues to interact with their consumers, however focusing on customer satisfaction so that the comments received are positive, however you will always get someone with a negative comment. Although customer satisfaction is important I believe that you will never be able to please everyone, therefore I see social media as a good way for customers to express there concerns as they can be directly answered and resolved with responses where as if they were just unhappy customers they are more likely to spread negative word of mouth.
TSZ HA FUNG's comment, August 22, 2013 5:54 PM
Technologies provide convenience channel to consumer, consumer can easily search information online and they love to do it, company use social network like Facebook, Twitter to obtain and exchange information, company communication with consumer and provide information via Facebook page or website. Consumer be more power of controlling but also increase the trust because they process information by they own and it is more creditable.
