Lili Wang's curator insight, March 17, 2014 2:01 AM

This article is good as it allowed me to get a better and bigger insight on the different aspects of integrated marketing communications, what it was like before compared to the new developments now days. Due to the new upbringings of online and offline technology tools, it is now far more easier to integrate these tools in order to come up with a marketing strategy that will best suit a certain product/place. Back in the days, the need to strive for greater integration is considered inevitable by many and the uncertainty in achieving integration is highly doubtful. The market today needs to know the wants and needs of consumers in order to pick up on trends and to find ways to satisfy these consumers. With the combination of integrated marketing communications tools, this can be achieved.

Jonathan Chan's curator insight, March 28, 2014 12:33 AM

The article "Integrated Marketing Communication- Then And Now'"provided an insight into how the practice of Integrated Marketing Communications have evolved and developed over time.

In the past, the integration of marketing communications was not seen as an easily achievable process, with many striving initiate unified communications across a range of channels.

What we can take from this article is that both offline and online approaches must reach the consumer's in a way where the same message is relayed.

This might not necessarily be restricted to the company's marketing communications, but  be inclusive of the whole customer service experience and the how the company is perceived.

Although meeting the needs and wants of consumers is crucial factor to consider, the employment of integrated communication strategies would be a more definitive approach.

This is a good sample of IMC because H&M did a lot marketing campaign on many kinds of media like mentioned in the article website, blog, commercials and so on. In addition, they also invited David Beckham to be their new campaign in 2013 which they are using celebrity marketing to increase the brand awareness and public exposure. Besides, consumers also have a chance to win some prize by take part in H&M's Twitter activities. This really help us to understand what integration is or what IMC is about. Integration can make the massage almost every where in your daily life to reinforce you to get the massage the company wants to say.
Josh Leuenberger's comment, August 22, 2013 7:09 AM
My personal experience with H&M was in Switzerland and Germany the brand itself reminded me of New Zealand’s Haldenstein’s. I agree with @Curtis Milner with how simple the idea about getting customers involved in a campaign not only interacts with customers involved in the promotion but it also branches out to the followers of these people on Instagram and Twitter. I personally use Instagram and feel that I am open to many different brands and knowledge of brands through the branching out of different people on Instagram. In a way it is almost a free or cheaper way of advertising for H&M to branch out to a greater target market.
Victoria Clark's curator insight, September 15, 2013 11:37 PM

The brand H&M have mastered the art of integrated marketing when it comes to incorporating the use of social media and advertising to capture the interest of consumers and allow them the opportunity to participate in the marketing process. A good example of this is posting photos onto social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter for consumers as it is an effective way to become interested in a businesses or brands marketing campaign and get consumers involved. Using David Beckham as the face of H&M's 2013 campaign is an excellent marketing strategy as he is a world renowned football player and will attract more consumers of all ages for the brand. H&M is a successful business and obviously has a good integrated marketing communications system as they were able to advertise their brand during the Superbowl which, on American TV, is the most expensive time to advertise.

The ideas of IMC become more important to today organization. The primary idea behind an IMC strategy is to create a seamless experience for consumers across different aspects of the marketing mix. Organization shift from mass media advertising to multiple channel communication, mass media is ineffective because "one size fits all" approach and this is only "one-way feed" communication, but IMC approach allow organization advertising and promoting via multiple channel and thinks every consumer have different need, it help organization expand their target segment and viewed more as a two-way conversation between marketers and consumers.

Lucy Lim's comment, August 22, 2013 5:52 AM
In today's modern society, methods of advertising have become much broader than the past. Consumers have the ability to access and are exposed to a variety of different type of advertising channels. Due to this marketers have a broad range of options and methods to advertise and promote their product. IMC has the capability of being more flexible where it focuses on to communicate with the consumer and the marketer. Mass media has become the old method of advertising where it primarily based on a one-way feed communication.

Also, that the persona of the audence needs to be developed in order to effectively target it. I'm adding that the persona needs to be developed with/in R&D, so that you avoid working "backward" to create a target that fits the product and not the other way around.

Integrated Marketing Communications is the combined use of advertising tools that are used in a marketing campaign in order to promote a certain brand or product. creating brand awareness is very important for a business if they want to succeed in their industry. IMC is very customer-centric, meaning it is based and revolved around customers. needs and wants of these customers are important as the product the company comes up with must meet the satisfaction of these customers.

Promotional Program: This article is very good, it describes what integrated marketing communication is, how to implement it and more importantly the benefits of it.

Integrated marketing communication is simply defined in this article as ensuring "that all forms of communications and messages are carefully linked together". This ensures that they will all work together harmoniously and compliment each other.

IMC refers to the promotional aspect in the marketing mix and its purpose is to maximise the gains from promotions as it is argued that they will work better when integrated rather than in isolation.

Integration can start within the company by linking all data held on individual customers by different departments into one file. This will assist the business  to better understand the customer and assist in retaining them, marketing to them and helping them. A interconnected system of customer information held by the business will better allow marketers to decide on the best marketing strategies and to intergrate the marketing materials through various channels for maximum benefits.

The article states that IMC "can create a competitive advantage, boost sales and profits, while saving money, time and stress".

The article even states what barriers are in exinstance to a succesful IMC strategy. I cannot think of anything else I would want to know about this topic except what are the best methods to inegrate different marketing channels.

Avi Prasad's comment, March 21, 2013 9:27 PM
I agree with Faisal, this is a very good article and covers the concept of IMC quite in-deathly. This article gives a crucial break down of the IMC concept as well as barriers, benefits of IMC. The article is highly applicable to what we are doing and can be used as a reference point in fully understanding the IMC concept which is pretty big and complex.
The article seems more of being a guide then anything really. None the less a good read for anyone wanting to get the a qucik indepth view of IMC.

This article stated that a single channel does not have a strong enough impact on consumers, and said that the combination of media is a touchpoint. The current trend is that consumers are spending more of their time online. Regardless of business size, companies need to build effective campaigns in order for consumers to experience better integrated marketing communications through various channels. The brand managers figure out how to maximise their message to consumers during marketing spending, and think about professional marketing strategies to help increase brand engagement through social media.

Social media is one of the biggest IMC chanells that could be discussed. Social media can be influenced by many ways. Personal, influence or general market place influence. the way social media has portrayed in this article has proven examples of market place influence as it discusses the issue of users online. The opinion leaders in this case would be with businesses as they discuss how many consumers spend most of their time online. Using augmented reality is very fascinating. The use of the new technology now a day is very impressive with all the new apps that give consumers the much needed information on their promotion. I think it is a great way that Tesco uses augmented reality to promote their new promotion on BIG PRICE DROP of over 3000 products. However, technology are usually reached mostly at the younger age group so that the company can advertise their product and service. As said technology is a massive advertising communication to reach a large volume of audience, therefore the new Tesco promotion will most likely reach their targeted market.

Jiamei Li's curator insight, August 6, 2014 8:43 AM

With the high development of technology, Tesco uses a set of advertising to communicate the sales information include TV,radio, Blippar APP and so on. By using Blippar, customers can find the nearest Tesco store, checking the price of the product and the other activities. It is an effective way to increase sales and communicate with their target customers. In addition, it also can build stronger customer relationship with customers.
