Using a cocktail of drugs given to the cells in the right concentration and order, researchers have managed to turn human skin cells into beating heart cells. The scientists achieved this without the need for adding extra genes to the original skin cells, and they even skipped the stage at which the stem cells are able to form any other cell type, which they say is a major step forward in tissue regeneration.
