There are many great whiteboard apps for tablets but finding Web based whiteboard tools have been difficult. Finding a good one that stays active and is free for educators has been elusive but it is a needed tool for effective classrooms.  Happy to have found this blog showcasing 7 free options for teachers.

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's curator insight, February 24, 2014 5:30 AM

And for the record, I realize clearly that previous generations grew up without all of these gadgets and turned out just fine. I get it. The statement is crystal clear and yes, many generations grew up without something that the next generation adopts. I grew up without Internet and mobile technology and turned out perfectly fine. Although some would debate that last statement. Regardless of how previous generations learned, exposure to some technology is essential for students today. I’m not asserting that we need to place every student in front of an iPad from Kindergarten on, but simply give them the opportunity to use it. And not just use it, but provide access and opportunities for students throughout a school district to leverage the technology beyond word processing and PowerPoint presentations

The Simplest Way To Record and Share Screen Actions: Recordit [Mac]

Robin Good's curator insight, February 26, 2014 11:02 AM

Recordit.co is a new app for the Mac that allows you to easily record any screen action and to share it instantly with anyone.

Recordit is a super-simplified screencasting tool, that takes away any possible complexity or technical issues from recording screen actions.

This tool is ideal to share or report a bug you encounter in a certain app or to show where to click and what to choose to someone unfamiliar with a certain online service.

Free to use.

Download it now: http://recordit.co/

N.B.: It requires Mac OSX 10.9

Jarrod Johnson's curator insight, February 26, 2014 10:42 PM

A really quick tool for the Mac, but can do the same with Quicktime. Not sure if my firewall is preventing this from running. Recorded 5 seconds of footage from 1/4 of my screen on my MacBook Pro and has been cycling for about 5 minutes. Personally I pay the money and use ScreenFlow, which also allows webcam and microphone input together with screen casting and computer sound. Once finished recording the Screenflow editor pops up to allow you to adjust any of the shot.

Examining Your Multiple-Choice Questions

Examining Your Multiple-Choice Questions | iEduc | Scoop.it

As Ron Berk (known for his pithy humor) observes, the multiple-choice question “holds world records in the categories of most popular, most unpopular, most used, most misused, most loved and most hated.”

learning designer's curator insight, February 26, 2014 12:52 PM

According to one source I read, multiple-choice questions were first used around the time of World War I to measure the abilities of new Army recruits. As class sizes have grown and the demands on teacher time expanded, they have become the favorite testing tool in higher education.

Metrics, learning taxonomies, and web literacy • literaci.es

What we need to help with this are metrics – discrete, measurable things (although not necessarily always numbers). These metrics will allow for the person that’s learning to teach the web to feel a sense of progression. And it will also allow us at Mozilla to see when that person’s reached a threshold to count towards our target number of contributors.

One of the things I’m interested in around all this is what it means to ‘get better’ at web literacy.
