Ten Little Indians - Violence Against Native Women - 1491s - #VAWA #IdleNoMore

Startling statistics about the Violence against Native American Women.
Sarah LittleRedfeather Kalmanson's insight:

Do something @SenRonJohnson - Wisconsinites Ron Johnson does NOT support the passage of #VAWA with the Tribal Provisions.

Native women are murdered at 10 times the national rate; 1 out 3 Native women will be raped in her lifetime, and 3 out of 5 physically assaulted. Even worse, 88% of the perpetrators are non-Indian and cannot be prosecuted by tribal governments. Stand and take action now to restore safety and justice for Native women. Do Something! Sarah LittleRedfeather Kalmanson's insight:

An important article at a critical time. Share this article far and wide. With the Senate set to vote on Monday on the Violence Against Women Act, it's time to send a message to Congress that the world is watching. Call and email your members of Congress - pass a comprehensive VAWA with the tribal provisions, in both the Senate and the House!

Mad Season - River Of Deceit

Music video by Mad Season performing River Of Deceit. (C) 1995 SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT
Sarah LittleRedfeather Kalmanson's insight:

We must protect our lands, and water. - We have a choice to #IdleNoMore against the machines that are set to poison our lands, and water, in a flow of money and deceit. - What we do today have consequences that will impact the lives of those not born yet.

My pain is self-chosen
At least, so The Prophet says
I could either burn
Or cut off my pride and buy some time
A head full of lies is the weight, tied to my waist

The River of Deceit pulls down, oh oh

The only direction we flow is down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down

My pain is self-chosen
At least I believe it to be
I could either drown
Or pull off my skin and swim to shore
Now I can grow a beautiful shell for all to see

The River of Deceit pulls down, yeah
The only direction we flow is down

Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down

The pain is self-chosen, yeah
Our pain is self-chosen
Down, oh down

The choices we make today have consequences that will impact those lives who have not been born. We must think of the generations to come ... and, not in our river of deceit for money and greed. - We can live happy ....never take more than what we need, and give back with honor and respect.

DAKOTA 38 Film Screening | Facebook | IDLE NO MORE WISCONSIN | Scoop.it

Free Film Screening of the documentary "Dakota 38"

"In the spring of 2005, Jim Miller, a Native spiritual leader and Vietnam veteran, found himself in a dream riding on horseback across the great plains of South Dakota. Just before he awoke, he arrived at a riverbank in Minnesota and saw 38 of his Dakota ancestors hanged. At the time, Jim knew nothing of the largest mass execution in United States history, ordered by Abraham Lincoln on December 26, 1862. 'When you have dreams, you know when they come from the creator... As any recovered alcoholic, I made believe that I didn't get it. I tried to put it out of my mind, yet it's one of those dreams that bothers you night and day.'

Now, four years later, embracing the message of the dream, Jim and a group of riders retrace the 330-mile route of his dream on horseback from Lower Brule, South Dakota to Mankato, Minnesota to arrive at the hanging site on the anniversary of the execution. 'We can't blame the wasichus anymore. We're doing it to ourselves. We're selling drugs. We're killing our own people. That's what this ride is about, is healing.' This is the story of their journey- the blizzards they endure, the Native and Non-Native communities that house and feed them along the way, and the dark history they are beginning to wipe away."
