Wisconsin Sen. Vinehout proposes legislation to control frac sand mining #frackno #wimine #idlenomore

Wisconsin Sen. Vinehout proposes legislation to control frac sand mining #frackno #wimine #idlenomore | IDLE NO MORE WISCONSIN | Scoop.it

Wisconsin Sen. Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, recentlyproposed legislation that would control frac sand mining in the state of Wisconsin.

My proposal is a common-sense approach to involving local people in decision-making by arming them with information," she said in a statement. "People need to know if there is a proposed mine or prospecting for a mine in their neighborhood. Property buyers need to know if neighboring property has a contract with a mine; residents need to know if there a hearing scheduled to approve a mine."

Fracking: Untold Stories - VA Vet suffering from PTSD life destroyed by fracking - #IdleNoMore for our VETS

I'm a filmmaker who just finished a film about a man in Tioga county dealing with the negative impact of Fracking happening on two sides of his property. ED is a Vietnam Vet suffering from long term PTSD and hypervigilance. He moved to Tioga County to get away from it all but now finds himself in the center of industrial mayhem.

Fracking is bad, awful, atrocious, unacceptable, incorrect, and crappy.

This video has even more about fracking. It gives the many cons of fracking and perspectives of people who are influenced by fracking and fracking sites.

Wis. GOP #wimine Bill jeopardizes public health & DNR Stop Order & Exemptions to #WATER #IdleNoMore

HOLD ELECTED OFFICIAL ACCOUNTABLE FOR -

AB 1/SB 1: Iron Mining Bill
This mining bill jeopardizes the health of our families and our environment to support the interests of wealthy, out-of-state mining executives. Here are some of the most egregious provisions in the bill.

Potential for acid mine drainage
Acid mine drainage occurs when sulfur-containing ore or waste rock is exposed to the environment. The sulfur in this rock reacts with water and oxygen to create sulfuric acid. This acidifies surrounding waters and soils, killing wildlife and damaging ecosystems. The acid can also cause toxic metals such as arsenic or cadmium to leach from mine wastes, contaminating lakes, rivers and groundwater. This bill alters several provisions meant to protect our waterways from this acid mine drainage.
• The DNR and the US Geological Survey agree there is sulfide-containing rock in the area of Northern Wisconsin’s iron deposit in the Penokee Range, and we only have to look as far as northern Minnesota and the Dunka taconite mine for an example of such waste rock leading to acid mine drainage.
• The bill amends the current sulfide mining moratorium, so that it does not apply to iron mining even if sulfide-containing materials are found. (p. 19)
