- Moving at the Speed of Creativity"In my continuing quest to find streamlined ways to audio record and share conference presentations at professional development events, today I used the free iOS app Voice Recorder Pro to record my three sessions at the Oklahoma EdTechTeam’s Google Summit, as well as Jake Heister’s session (with permission, of course) on Google Search. Normally I would publish audio recordings like this to my “Fuel for Educational Change Agents” secondary podcast channel, and I may still do that, but for now this workflow worked very smoothly and was MUCH less time consuming. It took 38 minutes from start to finish to publish these 4 audio recordings to YouTube, using my iPhone. The workflow I used was:
1. Audio record with the iOS app Voice Record Pro (free). 2. In the app, rename the file with the name of the presentation and add a photo to the file. 3. Save the audio recording as a video to your camera roll, first selecting the desired “template” for your accompanying image. 4. Upload the video to YouTube with the free iOS app, “YouTube Capture.”

Those movies on the top? While a lot of these are the most popular movies playing though it is, they may not be the most appropriate for our students. This happened just today as I was teaching in another classroom, and it was a small distraction during my lesson. Kids were excited to see their favorite movie, in this instance, Big Hero 6. They cheered and became excited. Wild this case was harmless, I can only imagine other cases where movies that are rated PG-13 or higher can cause some concern for teachers of younger students. These can even be a distraction for high schoolers, who will likely veer off topic if they see a movie that they like or dislike.

Students can take a photo of themselves against a green or blue background (green screen or backing paper) and using the app, add themselves into an image of a book front cover by combining the two images together in Do Ink.
Tocomail is a great tool for teachers and students that I first shared last year. It is a communication tool that gives students the opportunity to message their classmates and teacher in a closed network that is tightly monitored. With TocoMail teachers can created a “walled garden” of class communication using computers and tablets. Students will get a safe email account and can benefit from learning communication strategies and how to be a good digital citizen in safe environment.
You don’t have to live with Apple TV’s default settings! I’d like to recommend some tweaks to make Apple TV more classroom friendly. These adjustments include hiding previews and icons on the Home screen, preventing screen hijacking, using the screen saver as a digital bulletin board, and other handy tips.
