#ideachat: Aug. 10 | Color and Creativity | Trend Expert Cécile Poignant ... | #ideachat | Scoop.it

How does color inspire your creativity?
How does color drive trends?

According to trend expert, Cécile Poignant:
"Color is for me everything: it's Life itself.
We, as human being, have the chance to see the world in colors and this means a lot. It gives rhythm, feeling and emotion to everything around us: from our food to our home to our clothes…to the way we see other people.
Color is completely linked to Trends. You have trendy color, color we love for a long time then we don't want them any more and we are tired of seeing them. There are cycle in our perception of colors, their meanings also change with time : black was the color of the widows and then came the color of elegance and chic with the LBD - little black dress-, later black was used by the Punk to express chaos & destruction.
Color is one of the greatest keys to express creativity. To me color is always linked to material and will not exist without light and without shadow."

A fabulous list of color resources shared in "A Study of Colour"

#ideachat July 13: Boost creativity by getting back to nature.

Sometimes it's not enough to just take a day off of work or get out of the city; we need to immerse ourselves in nature to access our full potential for creativity.
blogbrevity's insight:

"After only 3 days immersed in nature, subjects displayed a 50% increase in creativity."

What role does nature play in your creativity? This is the topic for our July 13th #ideachat discussion. I asked one of my favorite artists, Holly Friesen, @holly59 on Twitter, to share her special relationship with nature that is the essence of her art and work:

“After 30 years of painting from close observation of the forests, rocks and rivers, I feel I am no longer observing the natural world around me but rather, in a reversal of roles, the natural world seems to be observing me. Direct and spontaneous brushstrokes become intuitive movements that follow breath and echo emotional responses to this living, breathing vitality. Through a dynamic energetic exchange I feel as though I am being held within an intelligent, sentient field that expresses itself through colors, shapes and movement. I am both humbled and awed by this process.

I learn what I need to know by painting. The more I paint the less separation there is between inner and outer ecologies which results in a linking of perceptions with the natural world where attempts to define or control are useless. For me, painting is like deep prayer awakening a reverence for the earth’s inner landscape; the image is in you and you are in the image. Painting is my breath, beauty my compass, and the earth my body.”

In a beautiful tribute to Holly’s work, artist Walt Pascoe, @waltpascoe, quotes Tom Cheetam, “To be the poet of your life means taking care and paying attention. Paying attention requires slowing down. When you slow down, the circle of your concern contracts. And in that contraction, the world opens out around you.” Read more from Walt here: https://www.facebook.com/walt.pascoe/posts/10151485699596884?comment_id=26298432&offset=0&total_comments=9&notif_t=share_comment

What type of Network Weaver are you? June Holley identifies four types of network weavers in her new "Network Weaver Handbook".  This is Part 2 of my interview with June about "network weaving" for #ideachat April 14th.

"I think the most important skill for a network weaver is simply to be present with other people. What that means is that people are really listening to each other, they are asking questions that bring intelligence out of a person, and they are thinking about who they can connect that new person to..."

"In this new world, relationships are going to be more rewarding, more precious, and more valuable to us."

SENSITIVE SCIENCE

SENSITIVE SCIENCE | #ideachat | Scoop.it

Bush imagines a more colorful future and dynamic new form factors. Putting anything on your body is an expression of who you are, and how you feel. Glasses started out as a purely medical device, but are now a style object – even for those who don’t need them. "We wear objects as adornment, to feel good," says Bush. Why not look at a neck brace or a walking stick in the same way?

What Effect Does Having Your Idea Stolen Have on Your Creativity? #IDEACHAT May 11 9a ET

What Effect Does Having Your Idea Stolen Have on Your Creativity? #IDEACHAT May 11 9a ET | #ideachat | Scoop.it

Photo of Wangling Soho Building by Zaha Hadid Architects

A Beijing building project by London-based architect Zaha Hadid – which was not even finished yet – was already being copied in Chongqing.  “Hadid herself seems a little more relaxed about the use of her work, provided the results contain a certain amount of innovation, saying ‘that could be quite exciting.’” –  Philippa Warr in “Architecture Pirates May Finish Copycat Building Before Original”

What effect does having your idea stolen have on your creativity?

“When the creative idea or design was stolen, the author’s dream was stolen too ... something that is part of that person has been stolen as well. It is their idea, and the solution that they found. It is something that came from within their mind and their being. What was created exists because the author exists and creates.  It is the heart of what a creative person is, and after their creation is stolen, they are left with wreckage, and with anger and fear.” – Linda Rash Pilkington in “Everything Can Be Stolen”

“There are two ways that idea-stealing can involve fear. First, there’s the writer who’s so afraid that someone will steal his idea that he never shares any of his work. On the other hand, there’s the writer who is so afraid of unknowingly taking someone else’s idea that she never writes anything at all.” – Gabriela Pereira in “Idea-Stealing”

“For years now, I have seen a normal and essential part of the creative process going underground and it makes me sad and, sometimes, outraged. This normal and essential creative process is called claiming your lineage.” – Jen Louden in “Claim your Lineage Proudly or Why Stealing Other People’s Stuff has Got to Stop”

Is there such a thing as an original idea?

“There are no original ideas. There are only original people.” – Barbara Grizzuti Harrison.

“Great artists steal.” – Pablo Picasso

“Steal Like an artist.” – Austin Kleon

“I wanted to hear music that had not yet happened, by putting together things that suggested a new thing which did not yet exist.” – Brian Eno.

“Sometimes I think everything I draw is just a combination of all of the millions and millions of drawings I’ve seen.” – Dash Shaw

Can ideas be owned?

“Share ownership of your ideas. The more people who lie awake in bed thinking about your idea, the better.” – Scott Belsky

“I don't want to hear ideas. I just want to see the execution.” – Derek Sivers

Join us for #ideachat with Jen Louden as our special guest on Saturday, May 11th at 9 am ET, and read her post:

“Claim your Lineage Proudly or Why Stealing Other People’s Stuff has Got to Stop” at http://jenniferlouden.com/claim-your-lineage-proudly/.

Some questions to think about:

What effect does having your idea stolen have on your creativity?

Is there such a thing as an original idea?

Does confronting someone who stole your idea make things better or worse?

Can ideas be owned?

Is the idea of attribution of ideas fading in the 21st century?

What are some modern rules to follow about other people’s ideas?

blogbrevity's insight:

Join us for #ideachat, a global salon of interesting creative people who convene monthly on Twitter!  This Saturday, May 11th, at 9 am ET with special guest Jen Louden.

Counterintuitive! Data Visualization of Myers-Briggs Personality Types in Twitter Bios | #ideachat | Scoop.it
more...
blogbrevity's curator insight, March 26, 2013 10:38 AM

In case you missed our #ideachat discussion on Myers-Briggs personality types and Twitter, see the counterintuitive results in the data visualization OppoBoppo created. This data reflects those who have chosen to identify themselves with their Myers-Briggs type in their Twitter bio. Important to note: this data does not reflect the distribution of types on Twitter, but those who have "chosen to identify" themselves. What makes this counterintuitive is that more "I' rather than "E", and more "N" rather "S", types identified themselves by type.

Specifically, the largest number of people by type in their bio were "INFJ" and "INTJ". The type least likely to list in their bio were "ESFP" and "ESFJ".

"If we are to solve these so called wicked problems then we need be addressing these issues systemically and working in new ways across sectors drawing from diverse disciplines for new approaches to cocreate innovative and effective solutions to transform our failing systems and institutions. As Einstein famously stated, 'We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.' And it might just be good business.

So what do we need to be doing differently, and how do we need to be thinking differently if we're to solve the grand challenges of our time? Where can we find ideas for social good and how might we best make them happen and have a positive impact?

Join us for this month's #ideachat where we'll explore ideas for social good - and the idea of social good. We will discuss how we can support the development of a global ecosystem to share, develop and implement ideas to transform community, culture and systems, and ideas that can help us build better futures for all, together."
