Our First Winter in a High-Performance Energy-Efficient Home

Our First Winter in a High-Performance Energy-Efficient Home | iData Insights | Scoop.it
See how an energy-efficient house faired it’s first winter in Maine.

“Where are the driveways?” asks one guest visiting Belfast Cohousing & Ecovillage (BCE). “How strange, these houses don’t have any driveways!” Even the layout of the homes demonstrates that this is not a typical subdivision. But that's just the beginning.

My family recently purchased a high-performance house in BCE, a multigenerational community with 36 homes. Despite the cold winters here in Midcoast Maine, we have no furnace and no radiators. Our house is heated primarily from solar gains, its occupants, appliances, and modest use of baseboard electric heaters.

6 power plants online by late 2014 - Manila Standard Today | iData Insights | Scoop.it

TWO days before President Benigno S. Aquino III is expected to explain the country’s emerging power crisis, the government said the operation of six powers  later this year will stabilize the power situation in the Luzon grid.

The opening of three generation plants and completion of three plant expansions will generate an additional 423 megawatts of power to meet the Luzon grid’s demand of 300 MW, according to a report of the state-run Philippines News Agency,

PNA did not cite the source of the report, but identified the plants as Bacavalley Energy Inc’s Biomass Power Plant, Maibarara Geothermal Inc in Batangas, Pangea Green Energy Philippines Inc’s Payatas Biogas Plant, the GN Power Mariveles Coal Power Plant Unit 1, Trans-Asia CIP II Power Corporation and Green Future Innovation Inc’s Bioethanol and Cogeneration Plant in Isabela.
