Social Media is the New Normal for Educators | #ModernEDU #ICT

Social Media is the New Normal for Educators | #ModernEDU #ICT | ID | Scoop.it
The term “new normal” is the lingo used to describe drastic change in doing something or life after a major event. The change is usually
quick and immediate. It alters one’s approach to something or way of life. In the educational world a slower transition is happening that will create a new normal.  That change agent is social media. Social media has been around for some time but its practical use is relatively new to edu
cators. As I engage more and more educators in the use of social media for educational purposes I hear a lot of the same questions.

Leadership Develops When You Escape Your Comfort Zone

Leadership Develops When You Escape Your Comfort Zone | ID | Scoop.it

Successful leaders know that they must get out of their comfort zone to succeed. These leaders have spent a lot of time outside their comfort zone.

Via Kenneth Mikkelsen, Mellissa Rempfer, Founder of the Brilliance and Business Community
DigitalOyster's insight:

Leadership begins at the end of your comfort zone. Leadership starts in the learning zone. History has shown that life rewards the risk-takers, such as Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Nelson Mandela, Henry Ford, Elon Musk, and many, many more. These are leaders who have dared to step out their comfort zone.

Leaders who dared to change things.Leaders who dared to make a difference.Leaders who dared to make an impact on the world.

Where do you find the line is for your. Is it easier to stay in the comfort zone? Do you try to step out into doing things different but then jump back into comfort? Are you someone who pushes the comfort and see how far you can go?

My advice is just try, see if you can get out of your comfort. All I ask is take one more moment and stay with that stretching and growing opportunity and just take 1 more breath. 1 breath, if you an make it through 1 breath then you have gone farther than what you would have without it.

Here's to you and your business's brilliance (and one more breath!),

Project-based learning may be the best vehicle for personalized learning as teachers move beyond "course-based" approaches and open the way for student-designed curriculum.

Kim Flintoff's curator insight, August 21, 2014 9:13 PM

An art teacher and I (drama teacher) started to use a negotiated approach with students about 15 years ago.  By working with students to be aware of curriculum expectations and discussing "what would this look like" we assisted students with developingntheir own learnign pathways and expressions of their learning - in keeping with the legislated requirements of curriculum.  I've also noted over the years that elements of the International Baccalaureate - particularly the project work from MYP - reflects a similar approach.

Without reference to research literature, I'd speculate that this speaks to engagement, authenticity and relevance... and needn't be confined to K-12 contexts.... well-documented project work could be conducted outside the confines of formal classes and evidenced against formal assessment criteria.

Durriyyah Kemp's curator insight, August 22, 2014 11:10 AM

Project-Based Learning is a great vehicle for allowing student to gain social and emotional learning (SEL) skills.  The five core competency skills for SEL (self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, and self-management) can be easily integrated into any project-based learning opportunity.

El alumno determina los proyectos en los cuáles va a trabajar.
