Raw intelligence collected from 9 U.S. providers | The Washington Post | EDTECH ~ ICT | Thinking, Tips & Tools - the Internet Tracks & Trails -Besides... QUESTIONING them all ! | Scoop.it
Through a Top-Secret program authorized by federal judges working under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the U.S. intelligence community can gain access to the servers of nine internet companies for a wide range of digital data.

"[...] The program is called PRISM, after the prisms used to split light, which is used to carry information on fiber-optic cables. [...] The program is the number one source of raw intelligence used for NSA analytic reports."

Monica MIRZA's insight:

The Washington Post explains that "Equally unusual is the way the NSA extracts what it wants, according to the document: “Collection directly from the servers of these U.S. Service Providers: Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, Apple.”

Monica MIRZA's insight:

As a resource for building lesson plans activities, researching online -or merely for your own pleasure- this site might be useful to both teachers and learners...

Thanks to D. Morgenstern [ http://www.scoop.it/t/ressources-en-technologie-college ] for having me discover it. His young scoop.it's worth a visit. Besides, the technical drawing he's chosen to customize his background image is a real icing on my cake... come on, check it out !

Daniel Morgenstern's curator insight, May 27, 2013 2:07 PM

Daniel Morgenstern's comment, June 3, 2013 9:05 AM

Ensuring an Open Internet | The White House | EDTECH ~ ICT | Thinking, Tips & Tools - the Internet Tracks & Trails -Besides... QUESTIONING them all ! | Scoop.it

"[...] Governmental proposals to replace the Internet’s decentralized and open system must be resisted. Centralized control over the Internet through a top-down government approach would put political dealmakers, rather than innovators and experts, in charge of the future of the Internet. This would slow the pace of innovation, hamper global economic development, and lead to an era of unprecedented control over what people can say and do online. [...]"

Internet fait place nette dans la pédagogie

Internet fait place nette dans la pédagogie | EDTECH ~ ICT | Thinking, Tips & Tools - the Internet Tracks & Trails -Besides... QUESTIONING them all ! | Scoop.it

[...]" | Emmanuel Jaffelin, professeur de philosophie en Ile-de-France

What Americans Would Give Up For The Internet | Infographics | EDTECH ~ ICT | Thinking, Tips & Tools - the Internet Tracks & Trails -Besides... QUESTIONING them all ! | Scoop.it

"[...] Things get really interesting though when you start asking people what they would give up to keep the Internet in their lives. 73% of Americans say they’d give up alcohol. 43% would give up exercise. And 21% would give up sex. (Is that high or low ? Depends, I guess, on your own answer.) Just 10% would give up a car, which hints that most Americans would rather have a car than be celibate. "Edward Snowden's not the story. The fate of the internet is" | The Guardian - ICT | EDTECH ~ ICT | Thinking, Tips & Tools - the Internet Tracks & Trails -Besides... QUESTIONING them all ! | Scoop.it

"[...] They [Snowden's revelations] tell us, for example, that no US-based internet company can be trusted to protect our privacy or data. The fact is that Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft are all integral components of the US cyber-surveillance system. Nothing, but nothing, that is stored in their "cloud" services can be guaranteed to be safe from surveillance or from illicit downloading by employees of the consultancies employed by the NSA. That means that if you're thinking of outsourcing your troublesome IT operations to, say, Google or Microsoft, then think again. [...]"

Monica MIRZA's insight:

Il y a 20 ans, le CERN libérait le Web | ZDNet | EDTECH ~ ICT | Thinking, Tips & Tools - the Internet Tracks & Trails -Besides... QUESTIONING them all ! | Scoop.it
