http://mashable.com/2012/01/06/if-i-die-facebook-app/ - Summify

If I Die lets “you” post a final message to your wall and loved one when you’re dead. After installing the app, you choose three “trustees” (Facebook friends) who are charged with verifying your death. Users can then record videos or craft any number of Facebook posts to be published posthumously. When your trustees confirm your death, your messages can be published all at once to your Facebook wall or released on a designated schedule.

Can’t tweet or won’t tweet? What are the reasons behind low adoption of web 2.0 tools by researchers? | Impact of Social Sciences | Ict4champions | Scoop.it

Evidence from the Research Information Network suggests many UK academics are reluctant to adopt web 2.0 tools for their work, worried that such tools are not seen as credible or useful. Cheryl Brown discusses how researchers in developing countries face additional barriers such as poor infrastructure, and concludes that design and an understanding of the barriers are key ways to help increase the likelihood of success.

#Twijector is real-time twitter wall ( back channel ) for events #edtech20

Twijector is a free online service for webcasting tweets regarding various events. In fact, it has two main points for users:

Monitoring of opinions about the event
Everyone who becomes a Twitterian can use event hash tag in their tweets (for example: #googlefest2011), to express their thoughts, tips or comments regarding the ongoing event. This allows to receive new topics for a discussion, as well as to determine the right way to provide information for audience. Also, the service can be used to figure out the mass opinion about the seminar, which could be useful for organizers.

Communication without limitations
When shooting events broadcast online, Twittjector allows any Twitterian to ask organizers a question or, alternatively, it allows to answer questions from the audience. This makes possible easy participation of different experts who unable to get to the event, and also very significantly, by many times, increases events’ recognition on the Internet (the famous "twitter effect").

Of course, the question already had to be asked: «What about spam/malware, etc?». These problems can be solved quite easily: by ordering the "Moderation" service for every event, and setting filtering conditions. In other words, on screen sharing will show only those tweets that match your settings – the language, links, emoticons, obscene language control, censorship precautions, etc.

Filtering of the tweets is provided by humans, contrary to automatic settings, therefore the chance of malfunctioning of the events by message type «enlarge your logo http://bit.ly/asdg #yees2010» equals zero.

Twijector is free now()!

That, probably, covers all important aspects. There is only a reminder: there will be always few thousand people who are interested in your Twitter Event. You can help them to spread the word about your program to others. Think about it.

5 Predictions for Higher Ed Technology in 2012 |

5 Predictions for Higher Ed Technology in 2012 | | Ict4champions | Scoop.it

MIT's announcement about a credentialing program for an online class was a significant one. It comes on the heels of Stanford's successful online engineering courses this fall. Both offer informal learners the opportunity for "credit" -- or at least a form letter from a professor or program. Alongside these developments come Mozilla's Open Badges project, an alternative model for recognizing skills and mastery that comes with an open source, open technology infrastructure. Add to that, the ability now for people to create their own online portfolios, where they can demonstrate what they do, what they do -- with or without the blessing of a college diploma. What will "count" in 2012 as "higher education"?

What Does a Transformational 21st-Century School Look Like? - Education - GOOD

What Does a Transformational 21st-Century School Look Like? - Education - GOOD | Ict4champions | Scoop.it
Many schools held up as shining examples of reform are transitional, not transformational, according to a prominent education activist.

The foundation illustrates a model that classifies schools as "traditional," "transitional," or "transformational."

Chaltain says traditional schools "assume the student bears the primary responsibility for learning," while transitionals school put the responsibility on the teacher—the direction of "just about every recently proposed accountability policy in the U.S.,"he says. A transformational school shares the responsibility "via a learning team that includes, and extends beyond, teacher and student." In terms of student achievement, a traditional school emphasizes test results, a transitional school works toward broader curriculum goals, and a transformational school focuses on students' aspirations and life options. Student investment at a traditional school is based on fulfilling requirements, while at a transitional school it’s centered on engagement. Transformational schools take investment to the next level, working to build passion for learning in all students.
