Useful summary of lots of different articles on Bring Your Own Device learning. Mainly US based examples.

Angela C. Dowd's curator insight, July 24, 2013 5:01 PM

Thanks for this scoop! The TeachThought site has helpful links related to students bringing their own devices (BYOD). I think it's important to find ways to resolve problems around BYOD because having a device you are comfortable using adds value.

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison | Ict4champions | Scoop.it

A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations.

Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools:

1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it.

2. Client-based: Download and install software on a computing device to record and save.

MOOCs for Teachers: Coursera Offers Online Teacher Training Program | MindShift

MOOCs for Teachers: Coursera Offers Online Teacher Training Program | MindShift | Ict4champions | Scoop.it

Berry supports the idea of MOOCs for professional development in theory because he’d like to see teachers be able to choose and direct their own learning. But he thinks success hinges on skilled virtual facilitators who both know the subject matter and how to foster high quality discussion and communication online in order to make it work well.

Robin Kay's curator insight, May 8, 2013 9:23 AM

Interesting move - I would watch this one closely.  MOOCs seem better than large lecturs and in Coursera are much better designed.  Not sure I would want to be taught by a teachers whose only credentials were from Coursera, but I can see other higher education areas being better served by MOOCs.

Paul Rudd's curator insight, July 29, 2013 11:13 AM

MOOCs are interesting to look at in relation to finding possible best practice in setting up online courses

10 Steps To A Successful School iPad Program- There’s simply no magic pill – whether it’s the laptop, smartboard, iPad or the next device that comes along in a year or two. Technology alone won’t ever have the capacity to improve education unless it’s woven into a holistic vision that meets the very real and urgent educational objectives that prepare our students for life outside and after school. Well-planned technology deployments can however have a transformative impact on learning.

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom | Ict4champions | Scoop.it

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency...

Las infografías son una herramienta muy útil por su factor visual: en poco espacio y de forma visulamente agradable y atrayente, engloba datos y relaciona conceptos.

11 Mind Mapping Apps for the iPad | Ict4champions | Scoop.it

Mind mapping is a method that works for quite a lot of people. Brain storming, idea mapping, thought generation, think tanks – call it what you will. Traditionally done on large pieces of paper, why not use your iPad to create mind maps? You could use these for your own purposes, or “convert” those large flip charts into a smaller, digital version.

I think if departments reviewed their faculty, it would become clear to them which teachers should *not* be forced into using technology in the classroom.  Questionably, if those teachers cannot teach the assigned material any longer, they may be driven to learn it in order to keep their jobs, but honestly, if teachers don't possess these traits in today's world, the only thing they should probably be driven to is a different job....
